Heritage
[edit]What is his heritage and tribal background? Badagnani (talk) 18:55, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- I have one of his CDs; it might say on that. I'll look that up when I get a chance, although the article states (now) that his heritage is nebulous, or at least non-native-American. ~Amatulić (talk) 23:43, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
I had a long and contentious visit sitting by Doug on a flight one day. He seemed quite proud of turning his back on his Mormon roots and claimed that his father was a Mormon General Authority. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ibapah (talk • contribs) 02:45, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Third opinion
[edit]A third opinion was requested regarding a dispute on this article. I am deleting that request because I see no dispute evident on this talk page, and I see no edit war in the edit history of this article. ~Amatulić (talk) 23:20, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
It's clear reading the history that there actually is an edit war, with one party consistently downplaying the non-Native-American heritage and associated controversy, as well as removing references to DSE's real name (and the book he published using it). Looking at the history of that editor on wikipedia, it's very clear that this person is Douglas himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.45.165.69 (talk) 21:02, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
There definitely has been an editing war; significantly so post-divorce of DSE's Diné wife. Obviously DSE has adopted and was adopted into the Navajo culture; was once celebrated it is now downplayed and at times outright inflammatory. While there is certainly controversy about his use of a Navajo name, the fact of the matter is he's built a life and significant accomplishments as Douglas Spotted Eagle. It was earlier noted that DSE does not claim tribal membership, but has several Lakota and Navajo family members on his Facebook page that call him "brother." Shouldn't this page be neutral in its representation of his name and how it came to be? There are certainly communities of Navajo in Utah (http://www.lapahie.com/Navajo_Map_Lg.cfm) and stating the contrary is false. Finally, there are some self-published books that are allowed to stay within the page and others that continue to be removed. The reasoning is not clear. - As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia only accepts what is validated by realiable, published secondary sources, so conjecture, self-published works, and anything that isn't validated in literature has to go. Someone calling someone "brother" on Facebook, for instance, is simply unencylopediac and irrelevent. Yuchitown (talk) 03:55, 4 February 2016 (UTC)Yuchitown
Cleanup
[edit]Sorry to flag so much of this, but this really needs better sourcing than the subject's own website and archived geocities posts. Also, he is not the only person of this name, so sources found via google need to be checked for context. The Sand Creek person is Cheyenne, which this person is not. - CorbieV☊☼ 17:42, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
Sourcing
[edit]I seem to recall I added some of the Grammy content back in, but it's been removed. However, the current attempted sourcing is to other WP articles. I would suggest looking at older revisions, as it's clear the new user has been doing, to find the sourcing that was WP:RS. I'm not going to repair it all now, but I will remove unusable or inaccurate additions. - CorbieV ☊ ☼ 18:56, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
Again due to edit wars. I have added in the link for the Grammy Award from the grammy.org site directly. Jasmineb2015 (talk) 04:36, 3 February 2016 (UTC)Jasmine
