"Doubtless a bay"
[edit]I've removed a half-sentence claiming Cook named Doubtless Bay because he said "doubtless a bay" -
- First, the sentence is referenced to a tourism website, which is not a particularly reliable source;
- Second, Cook's Endeavour journal, which is a reliable source for what Cook named and why, does not record any such saying. It simply notes the bay name and moves on.
There's. Couple of other journals worth checking - first lieutenant Hickes, and midshipman Matra both kept detailed account so their travels, as did Joseph Banks. Will find copies of these and if the tourism website is after all correct, will restore the etymology with this more credible source. Otherwise, am happy to discuss but i don't immediately give credit to this claimed origin. -- Euryalus (talk) 10:21, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
