I've commented out the map, as it shows an incorrect location for Dorwinion. In Pauline Baynes' authorative map, Dorwinion is at the delta of the river at the northwestern shore of the Sea of Rhûn: [1] -- Jordi·✆ 14:57, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Etymology of Dorwinion
[edit]I have deleted the speculations on the etymology of the place-name, and replaced it with what is cited in Parma Eldalamberon 17. RashBold (talk · contribs) 19:04, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Great find! But I would suspect (G)winion to be a suffixed adjective rather as seen in many of Tolkien's elven languages. So, Dor Gwinion and later Dorwinion would mean something like New Land/Young Land. De728631 (talk) 23:08, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
