Notability

[edit]

I see that Heydt's notability is being questioned. I would note that her book The Interior Life is considered a minor classic in the genre. It's been favorably reviewed by Jo Walton here. Walton notes the book is of Tiptree Award quality. Heydt is also notable as the coiner of the Eight Deadly Words. She is clearly a Wiki-notable person, imo. --Pete Tillman (talk) 00:45, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No question she's notable. The Star Trek Concordance was extremely important in early fandom and has been updated and reprinted numerous times. Her ni var poem "The Territory of Rigel" leads off the book Boldly Writing by Joan Verba, which chronicles the history of Star Trek fandom and fan writing. This is a more minor issue, but the term ni var is used frequently in Star Trek fan fiction as well as being the name of the Vulcan ship in "Shadows of P'Jem", and nobody remembers that she coined it. In the Bantam anthology Star Trek: The New Voyages, Leonard Nimoy mistranslated ni var to mean "two becoming one", leading to its frequent use in slash fanfiction. They might at least learn where it came from and what it really means. But I saved most of that for the ni var article on Fanlore. --Bluejay Young (talk) 08:27, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the link about adding references to prove notability. The www.tor.com blog does not qualify as a reliable source. Widefox (talk) 15:27, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, yes, it does. --Martin Wisse (talk) 11:51, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
perhaps an explanation is in order: The book was published by Baen Books, and is being reviewed at a Tor Books blogsite. The two pubs are not connected. She may just be notable, but much of this article is trivial and unsourced. and, why would a photographer in alameda county be able to take a photo of her, if we dont know where she lives in california?Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:24, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

It's being reported online that she passed away this week. I don't see anything I can use as an RS yet. 130.111.39.47 (talk) 17:03, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Her husband has posted her final message on rec.arts.sf.fandom. --2A00:23C7:6701:FC01:AD30:4CE7:34B:DD36 (talk) 10:34, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
