(Delete?)
[edit]It may well be the case that this article should be classified as a "stub", but deleting it from wikipedia entirely would lose valuable information, i.e. the subject was previously not covered _at_all_ on any other wikipedia page. Indeed, the entire process of gold is moved from ore to precious metal is absent from wikipedia. My, there's so much room for addition of material here. What a pity to focus any effort at all on deletion of material.
CSD A1 says: <quote> Limited content is not in itself a reason to delete if there is enough context for the article to qualify as a valid stub. </quote> Sdsds 03:59, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
(Localization?)
[edit]- It seems to be missing an introduction, without any country or location. Jimfbleak.talk.13:25, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for this suggestion! You're right, some sort of introduction would improve the article. But I'm hesitant to write, "In English-speaking countries where gold is mined..." since that's pretty much implicit in the extant text. I believe the term is used in, the U.S., Canada, and South Africa, at least. It is also used in Britain, even though little gold is mined there! Is there some sort of introduction (other than country/location) that might suit your purpose? Sdsds 23:45, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Not a linguistic article
[edit] The decade-old preceding discussion deserves identification as involving two matters deservingneed benign neglect (if i am correctly recalling that odious term).
More specifically, and whether or not the colleagues continue to show interest in their former concerns, it is worth clarifying the status of those two concerns:
- The phrase "without any country or location" appears to presuppose that the phrase "Doré bar" will be understood as relevant in terms of the location of mining (which is presumably also that of the extraction and casting of the "bars").
- Similarly, it presumes that the location's local language is relevant.
But in fact, it should be obvious that the term, whatever its origin, is for our purposes
- FWIW a loan word in English (presumably from French),
- thus probably also a term of art, and
- presumably also, in most languages, likely to be consulted in the context of noble-metal transactions, regardless of whether or not the metal of the bars in question was mined, refined, and/or cast in a place where where "Doré" is widely known in locally popular languages.
Thus the changes in my preceding edit session on the accompnying article seem likely to have done no harm, and to have reduced the nonsense and confusion it must have previously been inviting.

Merge
[edit]This shouild be WP:MERGEd with Doré bar. Although one is the substance and one is the object, both articles are stubs and could easily be covered in a single article. User:Sophie means wisdom 13:34, 16 March 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.234.65.51 (talk)
