Concerns about notability

[edit]

I am concerned that this page may not satisfy WP:Notability. It seems to be based upon a recent theory by a single author, which has yet to be recognized by independent secondary sources. I am making this comment here, in order to provide an opportunity for my concerns to be answered, but if they are not, I will suggest merging the page into one or more existing pages. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:27, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Tryptofish. This is my first Wiki article--so I appreciate your help with this. The Dompamine mind theory was first introduced in 2009 so the level of comments and secondary sources on the topic are limited. The theory itself as outlined in the Cambridge University Press book by Dr. Previc is internally very well documented. I have added one secondary source that I found from a website that focuses on the social, psychological, political, and other implications of high levels of dopamine reward circuits--esp those located in the left hemisphere. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Irishfiddle (talkcontribs) 12:43, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And thank you, in turn, for accepting my comments gracefully. I do realize that you are starting out. (By the way, you can get helpful information about finding your way around the editing process at Wikipedia:Tutorial and Help:Contents.) I've looked at the new source you added. I'm still concerned that it is closer to being a primary source than a secondary one, because it is an interview with Dr. Previc. The key thing about using secondary sources to establish notability is that they need to be independent of the primary source. I'm happy to work with you for now, but we may need to consider making a shorter version of this page a section within Dopamine, instead of a page by itself. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:04, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. Let me know what you were thinking size-wise and I will condense as suggested.

OK. At Dopamine, I think it would become a section of "Functions in the brain", where it would be the last part, number 3.8. It should be roughly the length of other sections of that part of the page (maybe use "Processing of pain" as an approximate guide for length). You could source it just to Previc's primary sources. Then, this page as well as "Dopaminergic mind theory" would become redirects to Dopamine. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:21, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How did I do?Irishfiddle (talk) 22:51, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good, thanks! I made some further edits to it. --Tryptofish (talk) 21:42, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nice improvements. And thank you for helping me with my first effort here on Wikipedia. Irishfiddle (talk) 00:10, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
