Notability query

Onel5969 placed a Notability tag on this article in April 2023 and it is carrying several citation tags. I thought Ray Perman's "The Rise and Fall of the City of Money: A financial history of Edinburgh" would be useful, as it has been in various referencing and extending other articles about Scottish financial history. But nothing: Smithand his various enterprises appear to pass unnoticed. Which returns the question as to whether this individual meets the notability criteria.
