I once heard the original recording of The Gambler sung by Don Schlitz. I liked it MUCH better than Kenny Rogers’ recording. I have tried in vain to find that old recording. I was told that he was required to withdraw it from production as a condition for Rogers to cover it. As the story goes, all unsold copies of the recording by Schlitz were recalled.
