Editing scientific study paragraph

[edit]

I wanted to move some of the information for the scientific study "Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" to the page for the Traveling Salesman Problem as I feel it would be better suited there. I am in the process of adding a section for human and animal performance over there.

It should not be removed from here, because it's a short piece showing a small influence of the book in the broader culture. However, it may well be worth copying over to the other page... but if you do, make sure you include what page you're copying it from in your editing comment (this is needed for fulfilling Wikipedia's attribution requirements.) --Nat Gertler (talk) 16:53, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry if it sounded like I wanted it removed! I think this is an important study and I wanted to make sure its results were on Wikipedia. I wanted to rephrase it to something like "A 2011 study in animal cognition entitled “Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” examined spatial cognition in pigeons by studying their flight patterns between multiple feeders in a laboratory in respect to the travelling salesperson problem. The authors found that pigeons "appeared to plan ahead multiple steps" when selecting which feeder to visit next, which provided "clear and strong evidence that animals other than primates are capable of planning sophisticated travel routes." Their conclusions may be helpful to the fields of cognitive psychology and theoretical computer science." If that seems too lengthy for this page I could edit that down.
