Wrestling fan

[edit]

I have heard from a recent hockey game and source here that have said Hašek usually enjoys watching wrestling. So along with the educational note, this should definitely go along with that in the "Off the ice" section. Hasek is the best 02:33, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it can go in there. I think a sentence in the last paragraph of Off the ice (before the inlinehockey thing) would work well. --Wafulz 19:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good article nomination 2

[edit]

I feel the article meets the six criteria mentioned above at this point, so I've nominated it for good article status. Let's hope it works this time! --Wafulz 23:12, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Finally, I've been waiting for this. But I read that only Wikipedians who rarely edit the designated article can be nominated from that user, but oh well, this is good anyways. --Hasek is the best 01:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll review this when I get the chance. I've been working on the Brodeur article non-stop so I can give some good input I think. Sportskido8 02:57, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2007 GAA lead

[edit]

Should Hašek's GAA for 2007 of 2.05 be bolded for league leader? Niklas Backstrom is ahead of him, however since he did not play the 41 game mark (he has but minutes to equal 41 games he has not) should Hašek's 2.05 GAA be the league leader? Hasek is the best 17:22, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The NHL website recognizes Backstrom as having the lead, so no, don't bold the year. --Wafulz 20:58, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Too bad for Hašek... --Hasek is the best 00:09, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]

After reading this article, I am putting this article "on hold" until the following concerns are addressed:

  1. The lead needs to flow a lot better. See Wayne Gretzky or Martin Brodeur as an example of a lead that flows well. Also, I don't think that Gretzky's quote of Hasek belongs in the lead. Also make sure that the grammar is good.
  2. The first two sentences of pre-NHL need a source. Also, can you find something about his childhood hockey playing?
The HHOF reference covers these--Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. The first sentence of NHL Career is a prime example of something that does not flow well. Perhaps break that up into two sentences.
Okay. --Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. The section titles for his NHL career need to be changed. For example, the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals should not have its own heading. They should all have years, or teams in them. But not events.
The 99 finals were possibly the most controversial finals of all time. I think it makes a good subsection. --Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. His NHL career lacks a lot of needed sources. For example, statements like "Hašek claimed his knee was still injured throughout the next series." Any statement that should be backed up needs a source.
Do we need a source that says a player says he was injured? I mean, he didn't play those games
  1. Another example: "Though the Sabres did not have a stellar regular season, they defeated the Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, and Toronto Maple Leafs, largely because of Hašek's play." This is POV unless you can back up that his stats were really good in the series.
POV removed. --Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. The columns in all of his stat tables need more spacing.
I don't follow? --Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The stats look a little scrunched, that's all. Maybe make the tables wider? Sportskido8 19:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. International Statistics should be where the rest of his statistics are, and international play should come after the NHL career section.
Okay. --Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can leave the medal table in the paragraph section if you want to. Sportskido8 19:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Sources 40-46 need to be done consistently with the others.
  2. See Also can probably use more than 2 links (not that important though).
Generally articles have a "See also" section integrated by the end of the writing cycle. --Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Generally the article isn't that bad, but it has some prose and grammar problems, and it still needs more references. If you address all of the above concerns within a week, I will grant this GA-status. Sportskido8 08:06, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll fix the rest throughout the week, though I think some of it is a bit nit-picky, particularly since we're aiming for GA and not FA at the moment. --Wafulz 16:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I probably am being a little bit-picky because I am used to making articles of FA-quality, so I will take this into account. Sportskido8 19:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can check off the stat table issue, and the thick grid makes it appear more organized. --Hasek is the best 22:02, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any type of statement in particular you want to be sourced? Wikipedia's policy is fairly vague ("anything likely to be challenged"), so I typically go with the "assertation or opinions" or "weird facts likely to be challenged" criteria for citing sources. --Wafulz 19:52, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The sources are okay for the most part, but there are little places throughout where a source or two is needed. When you say something like "Hasek's conflict with Ted Nolan created a clique-like atmosphere" I think that should be cited. But with 50+ sources already, I'm not going to be too picky when I re-evaluate this. Sportskido8 20:54, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Upon further review, this article has improved enough to make it GA-status. I will join in the effort to get this to FA eventually, which shouldn't be too difficult. Congrats guys. Sportskido8 21:49, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Road to FA

[edit]

I've made a lot of changes recently, mostly grammar and prose (see the lead) to help get this article going to FA-status. One thing that still needs to be changed is the NHL records section, which should look more like Marty Brodeur's legacy section. If anyone wants to get started on that feel free, or else I will do it soon. Sportskido8 11:07, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, that's good. What's so bad about the format of the NHL records section? (I won't be responding for another 9 hours, I have to go to school). --Hasek is the best 12:01, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing major. It can just be cleaned up a bit. Sportskido8 20:11, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Does that mean remove or reorganize stuff? --Hasek is the best 22:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mostly reorganizing stuff. We could set personal milestones in there (ie 300th win, longest shutout streak, etc). We might also add a bit of text to describe some of the achievements. There's nothing wrong with it, but it can be made better. --Wafulz 22:34, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well it would be pretty easy to identify when Hašek recorded an acomplishment. If this is needed, then it would be difficult to know against what team, and exact date. --Hasek is the best 23:01, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't have to be that specific. I think Sportskid is just suggesting that the article could be organized more neatly. --Wafulz 23:29, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. Sportskido8 23:38, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sure. Using the wikitables help that. Looking at the article, my opinion is that it's organized enough, but I'll use a wikitable for the transactions. --Hasek is the best 23:59, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Be careful about using the tables when they're not necessary. Too many tables doesn't look good, so if you overuse them then it can hamper the aesthetics a bit. Transactions and awards probably don't need them. Sportskido8 00:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'm neutral on that so whatever changes for FA quality is good for me. --Hasek is the best 00:20, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created the legacy section. Any thoughts? Sportskido8 00:44, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's pretty good. Your statement said his GAA was 1.87 in 1994-95. I was wrong so I fixed it to the 1998-99 season. But that's it. --Hasek is the best 02:25, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
K, I made a few more changes. I'm not sure whether or not "Transactions" should stay or go. Yes, the Gretzky article has it, but it's such a short section and all of it is clearly outlined in the prose above it. I don't know. But overall the article is looking pretty good I think. Sportskido8 10:33, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well I think it can stay because it's just a quick and brief summary of his times dealt to another team. Is this going to be nominated for FA soon? --Hasek is the best 20:37, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should keep the transactions section. It's a quick reference for those who don't want to dig through the prose to find out the "who to where for what" part of the deal. --Wafulz 22:38, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I guess we'll keep it. As for the future FA-nom, I think it's close. We just need to cover all the angles first because people will find anything to object about. Sportskido8 23:26, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So, any other specific fixings for this article that are needed? --Hasek is the best 23:30, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
At this point I'd say to look for any prose that needs tightening (it should be "brilliant" according to FA guidelines), and for reference checking (removing and adding). One particular thing that I saw recently was that one sentence had two different sources, which is not necessary (usually). The main thing at this point is the prose though, and the content.
Also, in terms of the referencing, all of them need to be consistent and done to a high standard. Be on the lookout for any that need some fixing. Sportskido8 00:58, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think the prose isn't too bad. No repetitiveness but maybe using terms such as "the next year" linking to the NHL season that event occurred should be good. So I'll made an edit on that. Oh yeah, I found this source (scroll down to Hasek image) that might be of some use in Style of Play section. Is this needed? --Hasek is the best 02:43, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question: is he the first european goaltender to win the stanley cup (or in the modern era) ? K61824 03:25, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a starting goaltender, I think he's the first. In general, I think not. I know the Avs won the year before he did, and David Aebischer (Swiss) won it with them as the backup to Patrick Roy. --Wafulz 05:19, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Should that be included (first european starting goaltender to win the stanley cup or some alternate forms of it?)K61824 14:02, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, I'll toss it in there somewhere. --Wafulz 15:03, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It could be noted in the records section, or it could in the same section as the info on Detroit's cup win. -- Scorpion 15:06, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can the link I found include some of its facts somewhere or be mentioned? --Hasek is the best 20:17, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what part of the source you're talking about. Could you copy/paste a sentence from it to help us find it? --Wafulz 20:58, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I got it here. Not too important or useful, but here it is:

Title: Hasek sighting reveals strange detail

Hasek practices:

  • Morning - 24 km on a bike (1/2 of that difficult climbs)
  • Afternoon- 300 shots from a puck-firing machine (at about 140 km/h).
  • Hasek prepares with a personal trainer and CBJ draftee Tomas Popperle.

(Then shows an image of him).

I'm not sure how frequently he does this though...

But this is the Czech version. If there's somebody who can translate it though...If you want to look at the page, slowly scroll down for and will show a humorous Hašek image. --Hasek is the best 21:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer finding someone who could translate the article to give us the full context. For all we know, it's just detailing one workout. Maybe someone on the Czech Wikiproject? --Wafulz 21:22, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was at piano lessons, sorry I couldn't respond, but anyway, we could ask the guy again who helped us with the Hasek awards image (User:Crzrussian). --Hasek is the best 22:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering if we should nominate this yet. If we do, we're going to need to respond quickly to any objections though and make changes accordingly, just so it has a chance at passing. Sportskido8 02:31, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm ready for it. Let's just hope he doesn't do something crazy in the playoffs, forcing a current events section. --Wafulz 22:01, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's up for consideration. I felt that the references were the only thing that needed touching up before a FA-nom and I took care of that, so let's see how this goes. Sportskido8 08:47, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship with Jaroslav Hašek

[edit]

Dominik is not related to Jaroslav, dispite of the cited article. Also his book "The Dominator and Grandpa Jarda" doesn't seem to exist. I've deleted the relevant parts. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ony (talkcontribs) 19:19, 27 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Written: APRIL 1, 1998. Have we been pranked? --Wafulz 19:37, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I found a source with that info, I thought it was real. Oh well. Sportskido8 22:36, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

Should the picture in the 2001-present section be moved up a little higher maybe? It blocks the "International Play" section title right now. Sportskido8 21:48, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's fine. Doesn't make a difference though. I'll change it now. --Hasek is the best 22:15, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just looks a little better, is all. Sportskido8 06:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats

[edit]

Good job with the article guys. All the hard work has finally paid off. Sportskido8 06:25, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, finally! It could've been FA class sooner if I made more useful edits in my early Wikipedia days...ha. --Hasek is the best 20:59, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Olympics Image...

[edit]

I've found the old image showing Hasek and other players at the Olympics in 1998. It's on the Ice hockey at the 1998 Winter Olympics article, and it's tag is GFDL. Should we added this back? --Hasek is the best 15:19, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Gasp) some missing playing career stuff

[edit]

Seen by images from getty (go to page 8) there are pictures of Hasek playing in a league I have no idea what it's called. Hasek's team was the "Primus Worldstars". Even more confusing is that this season was during the 2003-04 season, the year he was injured. If anyone can add verified info about this, It'd be much appreciated. --Hasek is the best 23:25, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I knew about Gretzky's tour back in 1994, but I knew nothing about this tour in 2004. I added a couple sentences about it to the article. --Muéro(talk/c) 02:29, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for it, because I only know Hasek practiced with the Binghamton Senators during the lockout. --Hasek is the best 03:16, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scrollbox

[edit]

There used to be a scrollbox in the references section. I think it was useful, because now the references take 3 screens on my computer, and I have to scroll down a lot of text before I get to See also, succession boxes and categories. Before it was removed only people interested in references had to scroll, now everybody does. What about putting it back? Jan.Kamenicek 20:49, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The scrolling references are not allowed because they don't render properly on all browsers and generally have limited usefulness.-Wafulz 04:14, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Salary

[edit]

See this for the dispute over Hasek's salary in the 1998 off-season. --Hasek is the best 22:39, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whoopsies, I thought that was the correct website. It's not. The Goaltender web site has it here. However I should note I can't give you the direct statement. Look at the heading: "March 19, 1998:"... I'm keeping the statement + the link as a source. --Hasek is the best 23:43, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article (section copy above) currently lists that Hasek played in several IHWC including 1985 for Czechoslovakia. In 1985 Czechoslovakia won the gold medal according to IIHF. It is well-documented that Hasek is both an Olympic Gold medalist for Czech Republic in 1998 and a Stanley Cup champion for Detroit in 2002, so he would now be a member of the Triple Gold Club, but he is (obviously) officially not. IIHF has restructured their website too, so the reference is broken. Is this section in error? Could it be a typo, like WJHC/WJC instead of IHWC? --Bamsefar75 (talk) 04:40, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The medal table in the "International play" section also contradicts the stats table above. IIHF has a recent article confirming the medal table. Eurohockey.net lacks stats for some tournaments. Where can we find more complete stats to replace the faulty ones in the article? --Bamsefar75 (talk) 23:50, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page Jan 29?

[edit]

Dominik Hasek has a birthday coming up on January 29th. Does anyone think its a good idea to request this article on the main page on that date? Comments appreciated. Tavix (talk) 16:55, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know, some of the regulars there think that birthdays aren't really that important overall, but there hasn't been a hockey article on the main page since the Summer, and there likely haven't been a lot of Czechs on there either, so it's worth a try. I have the request page on watch, so I'll see if I can grab a spot. -- Scorpion0422 17:11, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I made this a while back, if anyone wants to take a look.-Wafulz (talk) 17:33, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. It's kind of unnecessary but it should do. After all, I haven't checked the backlog of FAs for the Main Page, but the page should feature Hasek. --Hasek is the best (talk) 03:42, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Award Missing - 2002 Stanley Cup

The article mentions Dominik's 2002 Stanley Cup, but fails to include this in his "Awards" section. I don't want to mess up the style of this page, so can someone add this?

save percentage record

[edit]

"the highest saving percentage in a single season [8] (1998–99) (93.66%).". That is inaccurate. In 70-71 Jacques Plante had a .942 as per List of Toronto Maple Leafs records (94.2%) 99.255.58.85 (talk) 13:36, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article is accurate as Save percentage did not become an official NHL statistic until the 1982–83 NHL season. Toronto may have kept club records of the stat or retroactively calculated it, either way the official record is Hasek's .936.--Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 21:07, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The NHL never has and never will track SV%. they track shots against and goals against, and then make save percentage using those two (AKA, any year that they tracked shots against and goals against they tracked save percentage). 99.255.58.85 (talk) 00:33, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
According to this and this the NHL started keeping track in 1982-83, and here where it states Plante's "is not considered official" since it was calculated "figure unearthed through forensic work with newspaper summaries by the hockey historian Edward Yuen".--Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 05:02, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Date format

[edit]

Considering that Hašek's not from US or Canada, the date format in the article should probably be international.

HandsomeFella (talk) 15:00, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So what? He is famous for playing in the NHL, which is only in the US and Canada. He is best known in the US and Canada. As a subject, he is obviously Canada-and-US-centered. -Rrius (talk) 22:19, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He is not best-known in the US and Canada, he's more famous in his native Czech Republic. Hence, it should have international dates. The article as it is right now is very scewed towards his North American career and should be rewritten. See the Czech version of the article for comparison. Maxim(talk) 22:44, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Note that Canada officially uses the international ISO8601 YYYY-MM-DD format. 99.245.230.74 (talk) 06:06, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that he has played much in the NHL is of no relevance. He has also played much in Czech leagues and the KHL, not to mention the Czech national team. He's Czech, and that's all that matters. By the way, NHL is not "only in the US and Canada"; in recent years the season-openers have been played in Europe (for some weird reason). HandsomeFella (talk) 09:57, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

Can someone explain why there is a diacritical mark over the "s"? As best I can tell, "Dominik Hasek" is so spelled (without the mark) far more often when referring to him in English. Since that is the standard for naming articles, why is it done differently here? -Rrius (talk) 22:22, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is done because he is a European player; removal is a simplification done in North America. The current de-facto practice for ice hockey articles is to keep diacritics (see Wikipedia:HOCKEY#Wikiproject_notice). For what it's worth, the pronunciation given in the NHL Official Guide and Record Book (2004 ed.) is DOHM-ihn-ihk HAH-shihk. They keep the pronunciation of š in Czech. [edit]
