Campaigned for legalization?
[edit]The article claims that Domenica Niehoff "appeared in TV Talkshows campaigning for prostitutes and legalisation of the profession". What does this mean? Regulated prostitution was legal in Germany for decades before she appeared on television. Norvo (talk) 00:52, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- yes and no. Prostitution had been legal for a long time in Germany, but there were a lot of restrictions placed on it, ostensibly to "combat pimping". Many of these were only adversely affecting the women - though some of that burden also came from the restrictive ways the courts interpreted the laws. So, for instance prostitutes could not legally get health insurance, since such insurance would be considered "advancement of prostitution" and thus, outlawed. The same applies to many facilities. Even though those laws sought, in theory, to discourage pimping, the were implemented in ways that favored brothel owners while making life of prostitutes miserable - especially autonomous ones. 79.255.255.97 (talk) 16:24, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
