"Controversy" section
[edit]The "burn Belgrade" video has been revealed to be a Russian hoax,
It's a private greeting to patrons of a cafe named "Belgrade" in Kyiv, Ukraine, which the Croatians frequented during their stay in city playing for Dynamo Kyiv.
The full recording can be found here [1], it says in Croatian
- Slava Ukrajini, Beograd gori, ’ajmo... Kafana je moja sudbina, ona me je sebi uzela... Brate, maši, pozdravi kafanu Beograd u Kijevu"
which properly translates into English as
- Glory to Ukraine, Belgrade burns, "Kafana is my destiny, she captured me...", Brother, wave, greet the "Belgrade Café" in Kyiv
The phrase Glory to Ukraine might perhaps be considered somewhat controversial as it was used by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists which was a terrorist organization and during World War II cooperated with the German National Socialist and carried out acts of genocide known as the Volhynian Massacre, but in normal context it's just a patriotic Ukrainian greeting, not unlike "Vive la France" or "God save the Queen". Claiming its use here glorifies the crimes from the first half of the 20th century is equally absurd as for example claiming that Vive la France glorifies the massacre of the Vendee uprising.
The most "incriminating" part Beograd gori, should be properly translated as an indicativus Belgrade burns, rather then imperativus burn Belgrade!, refers to a café in Kyiv rather then the capital of Serbia, and is a metaphor meaning that the patrons there are extremely enthusiastic.
The Sputnik news agency is well known to be a disreputable news source and should not be used as a reference. I would correct the article myself, along with proper references like can be found here [2], but unfortunately it is locked from editing.

Orphaned references in Domagoj Vida
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Domagoj Vida's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
Reference named "McNulty":
- From Luka Modrić: McNulty, Phil (15 July 2018). "France 4–2 Croatia: France beat Croatia in thrilling World Cup final". BBC Sport. Retrieved 15 July 2018.
- From Ivan Rakitić: McNulty, Phil (15 July 2018). "France 4–2 Croatia". BBC. Retrieved 15 July 2018.
I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. Feel free to remove this comment after fixing the refs. AnomieBOT⚡ 18:06, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
