Not the biggest seller of strawberries

Driscoll's packs and sells more strawberries than Dole.

This article says the company was founded by James Dole in 1851, but the James Dole article states that he wasn't born until 1877.

Overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy?

The article currently states that the Hawaiian Pineapple Company was involved in the overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani and the establishment of Hawaii as a U.S. territory. However, the queen was deposed in 1893 and Hawaii was annexed by the U.S. in 1898, while the article says the company was not founded until 1901. --Metropolitan90 19:05, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Further, James Dole, who founded the Hawaiian Pineapple Company and who was born on September 27, 1877, was all of 15 years of age and a student at Roxbury Latin School, in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, when the Queen was deposed in January of 1893. Right, from my sources I would say the causality is he other direction: the overthrow paved the way for American businssmen to make higher profits since exports to the US were tariff-free after annexation. Will try to fix, as neutrally as I can. W Nowicki (talk) 20:51, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Controversy

USFac had pasted eight paragraphs of unsourced, NPOV-violating material in this section (as well as on the main article page - now twice reverted). Given the phrasing, the manner in which it was applied (merely a duplicate of main page entry) and similar edits made by USFac in other articles, it does not appear that this user was acting in good faith. Further, it appears the entry on this talk page was made solely to "blanket" Wikipedia with the editor's comments, not to genuinely engage the community in conversation. I have, obviously and consequently, removed that prose from this page. If there is a sincere desire to contribute a cited and non-biased "controversy" section, please discuss it here first. E.coli Outbreak.

Dominguez Lawsuit

I've reinstated previous material on the dismissal of the Dominguez lawsuit and Dole suit against Gertten because it is relevant to the criticism at hand, and appropriately referenced. The statement given is a clear POV. The source used is a link to Bloomberg, but if one reads the source it is clear that the information is a quote from a Dole spokesperson. If this should stand it must be balanced. I have tried to do this by inserting reactions to the suit. --Ekologkonsult (talk) 19:34, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Founder

I have changed the infobox to show Messers Castle and Cooke rather than James Dole; it seems a little pointless, as mentioned above, to show the company founded in 1851 when the man shown as founder wasn't born till some twentyfive years after that. I'm open to discussion on the point (it might be better to have all three listed, for example), which is why i've commented here, rather than doing it silently. Hawaiian coup and the Apology Resolution

I have added a sub-section in the criticism section relating to the Dole family's role in the Hawaiian coup, and pointing out that, so far as is known, there was no official apology made by the Dole Food Company as part of the 1993 Apology Resolution signed in 1993 by president Clinton.
