I know stealth did NOT replace Avenger
Someone else put that in there, not me. I had it right at the beginning, then someone put that in the 1996 time-line, and top. I know what is what with the Avenger, I own a 2000 ES. Mine also does not have ABS, because it was not standard in 2000 on ES models, and someone keeps changing that in the 2000 timeline. I called and verified it with the Dealer when I originally bought it. According to the VIN, I do, but mine is not equipped with ABS, and the dealer told me it had to be ordered with ABS because they changed that option on ES models in 2000. If you look at the TOP detal, is says it replaced the Mitsubishi Built Stealth, I DID NOT put that there, the original author did. I put in () that is was doscontinued in 1996, because they keep putting it BACK in the detail that it DID replace the Stealth. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Powerslave0 (talk • contribs) 12:58, 23 June 2006.
I agree --
- It is unlikely that Dodge product planners were thinking about "we need to replace this very slow-selling car with something."
- The two cars were in different price classes.
- The Stealth was clearly made and designed by Mitsubishi whereas the Avenger was at least styled by Chrysler and built at the former joint venture plant.
- Unless two cars are very, very similar in intended audience, price range, style, etc., it's very hard to say one "replaced" the other. I think you could argue that the Reliant replaced the Volare, since they went after the same audience and, though very different in technology, were similar in function. Clearly the Volare replaced the Valiant (and in some markets, they didn't bother changing the name).
- But then you get to arguing about how many angels dance on the head of a pin. You could argue that the Omni was meant to replace the Colt, though obviously it did not (and I think the Colt outlasted it); they were similar in price, architecture, etc. Likewise did the Spirit R/T replace the Road Runner Hemi? Etc., etc. We could go nuts and waste lots of time on such discussions.
- What does "replace" mean, exactly? Do product planners really think in those terms, or do they look at what they have, what's selling, and say, "We should have this"? We on the outside often think of something new replacing something old, but often, it's not so simple on the inside. Take the JA cloud cars - Stratus, Cirrus, Breeze. Nominally they replaced the Spirit and Acclaim, but in some ways the Spirit and Acclaim were simply dropped and the cloud cars started up; the Spirit and Acclaim sold in huge numbers based on low pricing, and the clouds sold in much smaller numbers, but at a profit (known to the SPirit/Acclaim only in their early days), and with much more critical acclaim (which is to say, with critical acclaim).
- Therefore my pitch is -- let's keep it out.

Station Wagon
Rumors, category, I think I saw a photo... Is it all true? --Jnelson09 02:59, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Dodge Stratus
It WAS sold in Canada- I live here and see them all the time. Same badging and everything. 74.114.153.200 04:27, 13 March 2007 (UTC) Oh, and I was almost hit by one as well. I happen to know it was the second gen too, because I remember thinking "omg, what an ugly Dodge. wtf is that?". 74.114.153.200 04:29, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Stratus was sold in Canada until 2000...2001+ Coupes and 4drs were not offered for sale Canada when new. This isn't to say that there isn't any in Canada, but they have all originated from elsewhere. Jon the dodgeboy (talk) 02:34, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
"Parts swap" edit
I took out a paragraph that stated that "at least 80%" of the Avenger's parts were interchangable with those of the Eclipse. This statement is not exactly 100 percent false, but it is deceiving. This statement is true (although the percentage figure "80" is not accurate) only to Avengers not equipped with a V6. The V6 equipped Avengers used a 2.5L, which was not found in the DSMs (Talon etc..), but rather in the Stratus, Cirrus, Sebring... Another statement made was that front ends could be swapped between DSMs and the Avenger. I felt this was misleading because, for the most part, almost no sheet metal parts fit each other, with the only similarity between the two being the doors. Thanks...keep up the great additions! Image question
I feel that the image of the silver car shows a better angle of the car and shows the details of the much better, particularly in thumbnail size. But in light of unexplained dissent from another editor, some third-party weigh-in seems to be necessary. Which one? IFCAR 00:55, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree, the image of the silver cars shows the lines and the details of the Avenger better than the image of the black car. I say go with the silver. --Redroller 18:35, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
As i have previouslly stated about the Chrysler Sebring , The chassis is not a stretched Eclipse chassis , Its an regular Length Mitsubishi Galant Chassis right down to the suspension and engine bay.(1994-1998US Galant) The galant 1994-1998 US Galant , unlike the eclipse did accept various V6 engines other parts of the world from the 6A12 Na , 6A12 Turbo , 6G73 , and 6G73 "Low Boost" Super Invecs. The only thing it did for the most part share was the 5 lug pattern rotors and 5 lug hubs of the Eclipse/talon/Laser The center console layout and ac controls and vents are an about identical match to that of the Galant , , the bolster panels correspond teh same numbers as the filler wood finishing panel it has in teh center and around the shiftgate. The Sebring/Avenger engine bay layout is an identical match to that of a non us 1992-1996 Galant with a V6 non turbo except for the airbox type and ECU placement .Kongkit (talk) 07:59, 25 May 2008 (UTC)KongkitKongkit (talk) 07:59, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I've got an image of my personally-owned '08 Avenger R/T. Any interest in displaying that on this page to illustrate the differences in the trim levels? (R/Ts come with black headlights, for instance.) Dusty duster (talk) 19:25, 30 July 2008 (UTC) ....I don't see why not...personally. There are quite a few subtle visual differences between base & R/Ts Jon the dodgeboy (talk) 02:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Many think these cars are the same as Galants, but in fact, the interior of Galants only look similar to the Avenger Coupe...the center stack bezel, instrument cluster, shifter surround etc are all different. In fact, the center stack is slightly different, even on Talon. One of the few things that could be considered the same in Galant, is the automatic shifter and P-R-N-D plate...that's it. I've owned/worked on both Avengers & Galants. Jon the dodgeboy (talk) 02:46, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
2009 Model Year Changes
The article says "For the 2009 model year the SE trim has being discontinued, leaving the SXT trim as the base one but with the SE pricetag. In addition the R/T trim will also be featuring a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine and the R/T AWD trim will be dropped for the 2009 model year due to low demand."
This has not been confirmed, there are no sources listed, and on Dodge's official website, it is still possible to order an SE model. Additionally, on their website, the R/T is still only available with the 3.5L V6. Shall I remove the offending sentences? Dusty duster (talk) 21:12, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- yes....please get rid of it asap. They aren't going to put a 4cyl in their top level model, when they have base (or SE, depending on where you live), SXT, upper level SXT. Jon the dodgeboy (talk) 02:55, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Previously unsectioned comments
The Avenger did not replace the Dodge Stealth. The Stealth continued on until 1999. It replaced the Plymouth Laser, if anything. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ghaberek (talk • contribs) 03:46, 6 June 2006.
- The Stealth lived on until 1996 (not 1999), and I don't think a Dodge would be able to replace a Plymouth. --ApolloBoy 03:55, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Why is Consumer Reports featured so prominently here? Is their opinion somehow special? Davert (talk) 15:29, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
1970-1981 Avenger
From 1970 to 1981, the Hillman Avenger was sold as the Dodge Avenger in South America. This model was the FIRST Dodge Avenger, and should have its own section. Yes, it might be a badge-engineered model, but so is the 2008 Avenger practically. Also it is only mentioned on the Hillman article, so limited facts are available. There is no reason NOT to have this as its own section, that would be like leaving out the 1974-1983 Plymouth Voyager. 199.119.232.1 (talk) 13:19, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
- It's probably worth mentioning in the article, with a link to the main Hillman page, but I don't think it merits a full generation section. There isn't enough difference between the Dodge and Hillman versions to justify that. See Chevrolet Cruze for a good format precedent: a mention of the badge-engineered car's existence and how it came to be, and a link to a full article for more information on the vehicle. Which I guess is pretty much what you're proposing, except that I think a full infobox is unnecessary. (And some references would be handy.)
- One question, though: Was the car sold in South America like you're saying here or South Africa as the article states? Slight difference.... IFCAR (talk) 17:09, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
- My bad, it was only available in South Africa. I think that would be able to work, although I think it is still important enough to keep an inbox, for information on it, as many have never heard of that version. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.119.232.1 (talk) 23:19, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Clutch wuuuut?
The last photo of the interior shows a gear shift and a clutch pedal? wtfffffffffffffffffffffff — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.58.113.89 (talk) 09:50, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
– Hard to believe no one has attended this issue. The Dodge Avenger does have a manual option, but it isn't mentioned at all on this article.Wikifan21century (talk) 01:00, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
