the last 2 sentences
[edit]What do these have to do with Doane Rock. Before the 'lush vegetation" the area was at the foot of a retreating glacier. The barrenness and run off must have be stunning. The gratuitous remark about the Pilgrim's farming practices indicates a disdainful point of view (Pilgrims BAD, nature GOOD). The farming practices that the writer may refer to cannot be laid at the feet of the Pilgrims. I will delete the last 2 sentences in a few weeks if no good reason pops up.
