Article scope

[edit]

I'm not sure that Do Kwon himself is notable (WP:BLP1E may apply, haven't looked too closely), but the information about the collapse is surely encyclopedic. The page might do better with a rescope to the cryptocurrency or collapse itself, with the biographical information only as a section. Note the topic is alo briefly covered at Cryptocurrency bubble#Collapse of Terra/Luna. eviolite (talk) 01:52, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agree that the collapse is notable, and also agree that Do Kwon is probably not the best name for it, but it's also tough to concisely describe the whole Terra/Luna/Anchor mess in an article title (although we could do worse than "Collapse of the Terra/Luna cryptocurrencies"). And as a counterpoint, Bernie Madoff ran a company called Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, but the Ponzi scheme is described under his bio. Jpatokal (talk) 09:22, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. It there isn't an entry for Terra/Luna the case for an entry for the creator is less justified. Perhaps the article should be moved (and adapted) to "Luna (Cryptocurrency)" ? Tggm (talk) 10:14, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. The event is notable however the creator doesn't seem like the main attraction. AtFirstLight (talk) 14:01, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think the founder is also notable given his involvement in other stablecoins in the past, the 2021 US subpoena, and the extent of media coverage he has garnered. Uhooep (talk) 14:30, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Seems pretty clear that the creator passes WP:GNG and avoids WP:BLP1E, significant coverage of him exists outside the collapse of this currency. See: [1] [2] [3]. There's probably enough stuff out there to support additional articles on Terraform Labs and the collapse itself, but I'll leave that to other editors. W42 01:18, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it's particularly relevant whether Do Kwon is notable enough to get his own wikipedia page. This Wikipedia page is predominantly about Luna and its collapse (and note that it was written when Luna collapsed). If somebody wants to write a separate article about Do Kwon, that's fine, but I'd rename this article to explicitly be about Luna. Rxtreme (talk) 18:16, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
hi everyone, wanted to let you know I am a journalist covering the collapse of Luna and can tell you a few things that may help you decide the fate of this page. A law firm in Korea has filed a complaint in a Seoul court against Do Kwon-hyong and is actively seeking plaintiffs. There has been a lot of online coverage of various claims about him, and when I tried to track the claims back to their source, in most cases, it led me to this page. That all is factual, this is speculative: If hypothetically someone wanted to post a Wiki page to hypothetically generate negative media coverage to make him look bad, hypothetically, it would be working. Of course, this guy's plan lost a lot of people a lot of money, so just as easily could have been posted by people unhappy they lost a lot of money.
I am not as expert as you guys as to whether he deserves his own page, but maybe that background will help? Definitely I think Luna / UST deserve a page, their crash lost people billions and crashed all other crypto currencies, Luna was innovative and had been touted as a safe crypto, not only was it not safe, it brought down all the others too. That's notable and Do is central as he thought of it all.
Hope that is useful input. Nealmcgrath (talk) 14:13, 20 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
