Kovalev or Kovalyov?
[edit]The article title uses the last name Kovalyov, while on March 22, 2022 the article was changed entirely by 36.229.106.225 to use the name Kovalev. Should this edit be reverted, or should the article be moved to Dmitry Kovalev? I will comment on this post once I finish further research.

- Further research has indicated that the name is Ukrainian in origin. Using the Cyrillic alphabet, "Kovalyov" should be the Latinization of Ковалыов. The article on the surname of "Kovalyov" describes the name in Cyrillic as Ковалёв. Since these are not the same, I attempted to Latinize Ковалёв myself. My own Latinization of Ковалёв turned out the result Kovalëv, which leads me to believe that Kovalev is the closest English translation of Ковалёв, and thus that should be used in this article.
- Additionally, an article on Dmitry uses Kovalev as well. A player info card for Dmitry uses Kovalev as well. Therefor, I see no reason for Kovalyov to be used in reference to Dmitry himself, as he undoubtedly is referenced as Kovalev primarily. ImperialSam27 (talk) 22:55, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Again, more research. Per WP:Romanization of Russian, Коvаlyov is indeed correct. However, according to WP:Romanization of Ukrainian Kovalëv is correct which means we are right back where we started.
- So, given that the surname is Ukrainian in origin, we should use Kovalëv. However, since the person is Russian, perhaps we should use the Russian version of the name. Since it is unclear, I would go ahead and say that WP:Common Name applies here, and thus Kovalev should be used, in line with the explanations I put in my second comment.

- I moved the page in line with WP:Be bold. ImperialSam27 (talk) 21:14, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
