Orphaned references in Djurgårdens IF Hockey

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Djurgårdens IF Hockey's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "stats":

  • From List of Djurgårdens IF Hockey seasons: "Historical DB". Swedish Ice Hockey Association (Svenska ishockeyförbundet). {{cite web}}: Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= (help)
  • From Södertälje SK: "Official Statistics". Swedish Ice Hockey Association (Svenska ishockeyförbundet). {{cite web}}: Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= (help)
  • From VIK Västerås HK: "Official Statistics". Swedish Ice Hockey Association (Swedish: Svenska ishockeyförbundet).
  • From Hammarby Hockey (1921–2008): "Official Statistics". Swedish Ice Hockey Association.
  • From 2003–04 Pittsburgh Penguins season: "2003-04 Pittsburgh Penguins Roster and Statistics". Hockey-Reference.com.
  • From List of AIK IF seasons: "Historical Statistics". Swedish Ice Hockey Association.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 08:10, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Funky title

Why "Djurgårdens IF Hockey"? It seems to be a mashup of several of the names listed in the lead. Dicklyon (talk) 01:53, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I find "Djurgarden Hockey AB owns the Swedish ice hockey team 'Djurgardens IF'." The phrase "Djurgårdens IF Hockey" is nowhere to be found in sources. Perhaps "Djurgårdens IF hockey" or "Djurgårdens IF (hockey)" would work? Dicklyon (talk) 20:10, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's the other way around. The ice hockey club Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening owns the business entity Djurgården Hockey AB which in turn holds all the contracts with the professional players in the men's and women's teams. QubeCube (talk) 17:36, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 16 April 2024

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Clear consensus to move; rough consensus to move to the alternative proposal (closed by non-admin page mover) BilledMammal (talk) 02:53, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

– These are dressed up like proper names, but I can't find them in sources this way. I'm open to other alternatives, e.g. Djurgårdens IF (men's hockey) and Djurgårdens IF (women's hockey), or any other disambiguated name or descriptive term, especially if found in English sources. Or we could use an untranslated name, perhaps. Dicklyon (talk) 15:38, 16 April 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 07:13, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note: other Djurgårdens IF#Sections are not yet considered, but should be. Comments are welcome. Some of them may be actual club names, some not. Dicklyon (talk) 15:47, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose The problem for the club is that the full name is so long, Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening. The club itself uses an abbreviation for their home page difhockey.se, which matches the name of the article. I.e. Djurgårdens IF Hockey. Here is also a few news pages which shows the use of the name: [1] [2] [3] [4] QubeCube (talk) 06:57, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per QubeCube, Swedish secondary sources mostly appear to use Hockey with a capital H. The Kip 20:06, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would also support a move to Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening, the official (but long) title of the team. The Kip 18:51, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • SupportSwedish-language sources???? We'd cap everything if we took any notice of them. This is English. Tony (talk) 06:59, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For overseas teams we go with their native names - we have Eisbären Berlin instead of Berlin Ice Bears for a reason, and believe it or not, their native language name (in Swedish) is Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening with a capital I - this is often shortened simply to Djurgårdens IF Hockey, with a capital H. If we solely went off of what English-language sources say, they typically omit the "Hockey" entirely and just say Djurgårdens IF, which we can't do as the entire sports club is called that. The Kip 19:14, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The formal name is Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening, where Ishockeyförening means ice hockey association. While we would capitalise the formal name in English, this shortened form is a descriptive name that would not be capitalised: the article is about the [mens'] Djurgårdens IF ice hockey team. This is analogous with capitalisation of job titles for the same reasons - we capitalise President of the United States but not United States president or the president, which are shortened or alterative forms of the formal name. It is certainly not necessary capitalisation per MOS:CAPS (through WP:NCCAPS. This is En Wiki, while foreign language capitalisation may be informative, we are ultimately guided by English language sources (not seen) and/or conventions. We do not capitalise for emphasis or significance per MOS:SIGNIFCAPS. Cinderella157 (talk) 02:46, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support alternative The proper title should be "Djurgårdens IF Ishockeyförening" which would be the capatilized Ice Hockey Association. But as other's have pointed out, the shortened form is lowercased. Thus, switching it to be men's or women's hockey is more appropriate. Conyo14 (talk) 21:36, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support alternative Djurgårdens IF men's ice hockey and Djurgårdens IF women's ice hockey (optionally with "team" in there, too), which I think is what Cinderella was proposing and what Conyo14 is supporting. Dicklyon (talk) 21:46, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
