Future Dixon Senior High School
[edit]The section, Future Dixon Senior High School, appears to violate the wiki principle of neutral point of view. This current article on Dixon High School primarily provides a history of DHS school buildings. This article can be improved by adding additional topics. However, the section, Future Dixon Senior High School, appears to be an opinion of its author about the state of the current Dixon High School. I am not advocating against building a new high school. I simply want to bring this article up to wikipedia standards rather than have it sound like an editorial page.
Here are some suggestions:
- Provide references that a new building is actually being considered for construction; otherwise combine this section with section Current Dixon High School.
- Cite a newspaper article or another reference that the 3rd floor is in disrepair and why this would require building a new school (e.g. building condemend and unsafe?).
- Provide verifiable data that the community and student enrollment is growing.
- Provide references that that cramped conditions exist and do not meet Illinois or Federal standards for student-teacher ratio and classroom size (student density).
Evidence seems to suggest the opposite of the author's opinion. The populations of Lee County and Dixon, Illinois have decreased since 1959. DHS enrollment has averaged approximately 1,000 students over the last decade, whereas in the 1960s through 1980s, it was over 1,200 students. Some data can be found at city-data.com, but this data should be verified. As of Feb 2010, a look at the website for Dixon Public Schoolsshows that budget reductions and layoffs are the main concern, not building a new high school.
The section on the Future Dixon Senior High School will be deleted if it is not improved by providing: (1) proof that a new building is planned, (2) evidence that education standards are not being met, and (3) references supporting the facts. Objections to its deletion should be discussed here. JWKNYC (talk) 20:31, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
