Proposed move
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
I propose moving this article to the simpler Dixfield, Maine, which currently redirects to this article. I understand that the "(town)" qualifier was added to some Maine towns to distinguish from census-designated places carrying the same name. (See Dixfield (CDP), Maine). However, in New England, by far the most common search for a place name is for the entire town, rather than the census-designated place, which is simply a statistical artifact. Maine is the only New England state in which some town articles still carry "(town)" in their titles, and even here it has been inconsistent.--Ken Gallager (talk) 18:23, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Support The town is almost always what is referred to when using "Dixfield, Maine". The CDP is clearly a secondary usage. --Polaron | Talk 15:21, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- Comment I overlooked Vermont above: there are some Vermont "(town)" and "(village)" articles, but there the distinction is between two legal entities.--Ken Gallager (talk) 15:35, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
