POV

[edit]

The entire article displays a clear bias and reads like an essay written by a Jr. High School student. I'm flagging it to be checked for Neutral point of view so a more experienced editor can make the changes necessary to meet Wikipedia's standards. Kjacket0 (talk) 17:58, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agreed. This article is in major need of work; it looks like it's been written by a child. And not a gifted one at that. Even the first sentence is cruft, quoting the wrong reference from a dictionary (discrimination = "telling the difference between"). Where to start? basalisk (talk) 19:55, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree this article needs help, especially the Sexual Preference portion as it appears biased by the statements. 1. if quoting the Mariam-Webster Dictionary as the source of definition...use it in its entirety, not just a portion of it. 2. if using a reference please show a reference showing your proof of violence, not one leading to the dictionary definition. 3. if quoting violence include that these attacks are usually extremists acting out of their own bias and not imply this is consented by an entire population. 4. the final sentence of itself shows the authors own bias and dicriminatory remarks against those that would oppose his or her views.Cowboycecil (talk) 21:31, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to go ahead and remove the proposed merge tag as a) no one is actually discussing it and b) I don't think a merger is appropriate, for reasons I shall outline below. If anyone objects, feel free to replace the tag and begin a discussion.

I think a much better option is to keep the two articles separate, and then completely re-write this one, including a section on racism in the US linking to the article. I'm going to include this notice on the other talk page too. basilisk (talk) 20:15, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Things this article is missing

[edit]

There isn't any mention about the controversy over the gender wage gap, nor is there anything about affirmative action and how it attempted to help end discrimination in the United States. The article also reads as if there is rampant discrimination going on in the US - it should be toned down so as not to read so sensational (but, of course, not to make it sound like a nonissue). 108.33.46.243 (talk) 17:00, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's also an issue with exactly what the discrimination covers. The title is "Discrimination in the United States", meaning it should cover all the various discriminations (e.g. Germans were discriminated heavily in WWI and WWII, the Irish were discriminated in the 19th century, etc.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.48.115.247 (talk) 00:38, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Gender Discrimination Sections Needs Improvement

[edit]

Ple)

Since no one has discussed this in over 3 years, I have removed the NPOV tag. ~ GB fan a "frantic, furious ball of anger" 16:10, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Racism isn't over

[edit]

This article gives out "African Americans were once discriminated against but now it is the LGBTQ* community" vibe. There is discrimination against LGBTQ* people big time but discrimination against African Americans still occurs. This article completely looks over the discrimination against American Indians, Asian Americans, and other minority groups. Clr324 (say hi) 07:54, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Clr324: I agree: this article should describe the effect of discrimination on the current racial inequality in the United States. Jarble (talk) 00:23, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Jarble: Thanks for the link to that article. It is relevant to this article. Clr324 (say hi) 09:14, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Clr324: Why must their be a specific minority mentioned when considering racism? If you are human, you can be a victim of racism. One's actual race does not dictate that. Stop trying to make this article about any specific group. 03:17, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Potential New Article

[edit]

I will be expanding on the section “Today”. I will expand on, “Discrimination against immigrants”. I believe this issue should be expanded on for readers to clearly know how and why there should be discrimination against immigrants. Under this sub section, I will add the discrimination against immigrants in the work place.
