American?
[edit]Why is this called an American documentary series, if most of the disasters are Canadian? 76.66.197.2 (talk) 10:59, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

GOCE first pass- removing a ton of unnecessary content
[edit]Placing a warning here before undertaking this intimidating task: this article was listed at GOCE, and I'm taking a pass at it. The only way forward I can see to make sense of the massive episode list is to cut a huge amount of text, as it appears to be originally copypasted from an outside source in full and is almost unnavigable.
It guts me to do this, I lean towards inclusionism more than deletionism overall, and over the years since this huge wall of text got placed here many editors have done great work in adding wikilinks and trying to make good use of the raw material. Still, there's no way a more technically skilled Wikipedian will be able to move the episode guide content into an appropriate template as tagged, unless the majority of confusing wordage is trimmed in this manner first. Feel free to ping me directly for response in this thread if you have any questions or concerns!
As I'm pretty new to GOCE I'll also tag in other guild editors to review, rather than mark the CE complete myself. Chiselinccc (talk) 03:11, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- As a first step, I've taken this really extensive preamble out of the Episodes section- I had to read this paragraph 3+ times to start to understand what it's communicating. Personally, I feel this level of detail is more appropriate for a blog or enthusiasts forum than Wikipedia: we should be stating things we CAN source in the article, not building a bigger mindmap of the topic to chase down missing information (that's what Talk pages are for!).
- So, pasted unaltered for posterity:
- NOTE: This series is offered in two formats: 65 half hour episodes and 42 hour-long episodes. As a result, to make the 42 hour-long episodes, 19 of the half-hour shows are used twice. Due to this fact - and the fact that so far an episode list for the half-hour version hasn't been located to date - any extraneous titles have not been able to be matched. What follows is the information we have regarding the hour-long shows, however there may be duplications in the list as it currently shows more than 42 episodes, as well as some titles that haven't been matched to anything listed. Any additional additions or corrections are most welcome. Chiselinccc (talk) 03:16, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- After reviewing the MOS pages for Television Episode Guide templates, I actually feel somewhat capable of trying it out myself in the process of this CE - knowing the specific allowable values for those table columns helps me identify what text from this list is usable.
- Given the unique nature of this show's format and topics, I may try to tweak a few columns away from the standard template so that we can retain information about the disasters covered in known episodes. I will need to do this at a full computer though, so for now I'm just taking a final quick mobile pass to fix any obvious errors and remove unencyclopedic language.
