photograph

[edit]

This (short) page mentions a widely-distributed photograph, but doesn't actually have this photograph. Why not?

Thanks

Hello! To answer your question, Wikipedia is not a traditional encyclopedia. Everything from text to images is user-submitted (i.e., random people volunteer their time and resources to the betterment of this project). The image may not be free, or perhaps no one has simply taken the time to find it and upload it! Cheers!--It's me...Sallicio! 05:22, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can tell, the widely-distributed photograph is not free. I placed a CC-licensed photo in the article. —hike395 (talk) 06:54, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

About the same image. The article attributes it to Carlos Gutierrez but nothing is said in his article about that. Is it the right Carlos Gutierrez the one being linked to? The former secretary of commerce? Lalarimann (talkcontribs) 21:07, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Evaluating for Volcanology college course - may choose for edits

[edit]

Hello,

I'm new here and learning! Open to any suggestions or constructive criticism.

I'm taking a volcanology course and editing or creating a Wiki article is one of our assignments; I am especially interested in volcanic lightning and its processes.

I think the article has an excellent amount resources, most are of good quality and there is a great structure with a lot of information. I'd like to grow the article with more sources, information, and perhaps a few more sections. One section only has one sentence and I'd like to add more to bolster the section.

I see this article is start-class and had some difficulties with a potentially CR photo - could someone tell me more about that?

@AshBaer89: what is a CR photo? — hike395 (talk) 17:03, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
My apologies, CR is short for copyright photograph.

About 14 years ago, there was a famous copyrighted photograph of volcanic lightning that we couldn't use in the article. It was never part of the article. Digital photographs are more commonly available, so there are a number of CC-licensed photographs that we can use. One of them is in the current infobox. — hike395 (talk) 12:53, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
-- Great! Thank you for that information, @Hike395
