Significant differences?

[edit]

I just watched the premiere episode of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency on BBC America. There seems to be significant differences between this TV show and the Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency novel (and the earlier TV series, for that matter). Besides for the Dirk character, all the others and the plot is completely different. Is this true or is this 2016 series based on other treatments that Adams wrote? Thank you for your time, Wordreader (talk) 03:48, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's not based on any other Adams writings - the creator of the TV show wanted to make a new story using the characters and basic concept of the original novels, that's all. —Flax5 19:13, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
During the first episode of the show, Dirk briefly mentions the events from the books as happening earlier in his career. 67.236.221.250 (talk) 17:39, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That should be described a little better. The phrase "based on the book" gives a different impression. Nerfer (talk) 17:23, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, changed it. Nerfer (talk) 17:39, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kaitlyn Dever

[edit]

she's on the cast list on the sidebar, but not in the characters list in the content of the page. IMDB doesn't list her, google doesn't turn anything up. is this a mistake? 198.53.224.193 (talk) 04:56, 14 December 2016 (UTC) [1]:I think you must be talking about Alison Thornton. She is the only person I would think looks like Kaitlyn Dever in the show and she plays Lydia Spring (the kidnapped girl). Alison Thorn is on the IMDB. The Cast List on the Sidebar must be a mistake. Hope this answers your query.Mikemister748 (talk) 11:02, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cameron Andres

[edit]

I took him out of the description of the cast, he was listed as a "young Dirk". But I don't remember any flashbacks to a young Dirk, and Cameron's IMDB page doesn't mention this show, although there is a picture of him with Barnett on the set of Dirk Gently (there is a good resemblance between them). Maybe that's next year's season? Nerfer (talk) 17:40, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cast vs. Recurring

[edit]

Is there a contractual or legal difference between these two categories? O/w I don't see how you can say Col. Riggins is recurring, but Sgt Friedkin is cast, or the leader of the Rowdy 3 is cast, but the others are recurring. It can't be by # episodes they're in, as Bart and Ken skipped an episode, but several recurring characters are in every episode. I see there's been some attempts to change what section characters are listed in, but those changes have been rebuffed, so there must be some distinction. The way it's supposed to work is that the people after "Guest Starring" in the actual show credits are recurring, the ones before it are "starring" and part of the main cast. 100.7.101.203 (talk) 17:35, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fiona Vroom / Wilson

[edit]

Is there a reason why this actress/character are not mentioned at all? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.69.122.95 (talk) 15:11, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Classification

[edit]

How is this "comic" science fiction? Perhaps this description has been cloned off the description of the British version of the show? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.232.127.34 (talk) 18:28, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
