Resignation during 2nd Parliament

[edit]

There's some uncertainty about when Bell resigned from the 2nd Parliament. According to Wilson, he resigned on 10 October 1856 (and Wilson is a very reliable piece of work). Contemporary newspapers report the speaker reading out his resignation on 10 April 1858 (although it's always the same report): Otago Witness, Daily Southern Cross, Nelson Examiner and New Zealand Chronicle. This is just a selection - the report appeared in quite a few other papers, too. It would be good to clarify what went on. Schwede66 12:44, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
