To not merge on the grounds of independent notability. Klbrain (talk) 17:44, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Proposed merge of digital imaging and digital image processing. It is unclear to me why the two pages need to be separate, when the only difference seems to be that maybe "digital imaging" concerns itself slightly more with the creation of the image. If a deeper dive is necessary on how an image is captured physically, image sensor seems to be the ideal place for that information. Explanation of the computer science and what happens once an image has been captured could then be made on the "digital imaging/image processing" page. Note: I am not merely suggesting that both pages refer to the same thing, but that they overlap substantially, and both pages, the editors and the readership, would benefit from a merged page that has a strong direction and flow.

As for whether the target page should be this one or digital imaging, I have no strong opinions, but the argument for using DIP is that DI is less developed once a lot of the waffle has been removed. Otherwise, using DI makes sense, as the term naturally encompasses more than purely processing (if that distinction is important, as it seems reasonable to say that all digital imaging is in the processing). If I'm missing something, please let me know—perhaps "image" doesn't always refer to what we might think of as a "picture", but if that's the case, one or both of these articles need heavy rewriting to address that. Thanks. — Hazzzzzz12 (talk) 11:47, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

I would oppose that merger, because acquiring an image and performing digital image processing on a raster file are two completely different activities and both are independently highly notable. --{{u|Mark viking}} {Talk} 19:44, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
Oppose digital image processing and digital imaging are distinct fields. The articles do themselves no favours however in establishing that distinction. SailingInABathTub (talk) 02:53, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Strongly Oppose Digital image processing is an entire branch of engineering and applied mathematics.[1] It deals with the analysis and implications of the technology of digital imaging. I'm not sure if you read either article. Saimouer (talk) 12:19, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
