Digimon Next
Inserted basic information on the new manga - main character's name and the fact he uses the Digimon Mini and makes contact with the digital world through it. 22:43, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Clean-up/Merging of Digimon Stubs
While I admire and applaud the breadth of information that is posted about various digimon, I feel that it would be far more beneficial if the individual stubs were combined. That is to say, for example, WarGreymon, MetalGreymon, Greymon, Agumon, etc. should all be in one article. --mwazzap 02:41, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Pet not well-known?
The article says that neither the digital pet nor the movie are well-known in the US. I don't know about the movie (I'm not a Digimon fan), but I take issue with the idea that the digital pet isn't. They're probably rare now, but when they first came out here they were fairly common -- they probably at least as popular as Tamagotchi, at least in my local area, and there were plenty of commercials on TV for it ("Prepare to Digimon!", they would exhort us). But I doubt we've forgotten the original Digimon; they just died out because virtual pets were a passing fad. But we remember 'em. --Furrykef 21:08, 18 Jul 2004 (UTC)
The pet wasn't unpopular,I had one myself but few pepole rember them.I can't blame them since at the time there were a LOT of "tamagochi imitaters" and Digimon wasn't that noteworthy. also the article should probably talk about how Digimon was created to serve as a sort of "tamagochi for boys"
D-Reaper
D-Reapers appearance in Digimon Tamers is interesting. It reveals a little more about the actual creation of the Digimon. They probably were evolved instead of programmed, because programs like D-Reaper are used in Artificial Life experiments like Tierra, where old/unfit programs are killed of by a Reaper routine.
Show Information
I have placed some terms from the original japanese version so some people will know the difference so I use Parenthesis. I also purposly made sure to use them once because I don't want to cause too much confusion. I also watched a downloaded version of Digimon Movie 4 and made a not too long summary as best I could and modified the Digimon Movie summmary a bit with some of the original material that was taken out of the American Releases.
Series/Season question?
I'm wondering if what's referred to as various seasons of digimon should instead be referred to as series, as they were originally treated as seperate series, and they follow three different timelines despite all coming under the "digimon" umbrella
- I agree that they were separate series in Japan, but in the dubs case they referred to the show as Season 2, Season 3, (and maybe season 4??) instead of using the Japanese series names (Adventure/Adventure Zero Two, Tamers, and Frontier) Dunro 06:12, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- They are indeed seperate and distinct series, both in Japan and America. For whatever reason, the dub commericals chose the use the misnomer "season", but they are still series which are composed of seperate seasons. Shining Celebi
Video games
Should there be information on the video games in this article?
- I personally think that if the card game is in a separate article, then the video games should be seperate too. Then again, the anime has its own article -and- is covered extensively in this one. Does anyone have information on the video games? Dunro
Character Names
As far as I know, in Japan the surname is written first:
i.e "Yagami Taichi" instead of "Taichi Yagami", as is written in the article.
I'll leave it up to you..I may be wrong. - In English, the naming order is switched around to GN, FN in many publications. WhisperToMe 04:35, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)
-
If you do decide to switch the order of the Japanese names, it may be an idea to write the family names in all capitals (ie YAGAMI Taichi). This practice is not uncommon in Japan -- I even do it when writing my name (as I am in Japan currently) to avoid ambiguity. Dunro 06:15, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- The majority of the articles use 'Tai', 'Matt' etc, instead of the full names. Where they have been mentioned, it's 'Taichi Yagami' and similar. I would rather leave them as they are, since they occur so many times. You may want to see DigiDestined for an idea on how they are done. -x42bn6 Talk 11:03, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
"In my humble opinion, to celebrate that Digimon is a franchise that came from Japan, and are still "alive" and "kicking" there, I hope that every Digimon-related articles use the names from Japanese version FIRST, followed by the American names. Like for example:
"Yagami Taichi, known in the US dub as Tai Kamiya" instead of "Taichi "Tai" Kamiya, known in Japan as Taichi Yagami" —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.170.56.244 (talk • contribs) .

Hentai
Umn.....Ew? Do we really need that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.141.19.144 (talk • contribs) 03:08, 25 June 2005
- Agreed, it needs to follow the guidelines of Wikipedia:External links.
- In general, any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article here would have once it becomes an example of brilliant prose.
- This breaks the rule - Digimon hentai is not what this article is about.
- In addition, even though Wikipedia is not meant for the protection of minors, it still doesn't mean that we add links to hentai (especially one that doesn't say "Explicit content", but simply "Fanart"). It does not add any encyclopedic information to this article. x42bn6 Talk 06:51, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Cleanup
Adding cleanup tag to this & many pages linked to from here; each tagged page assumes too high a background level of knowledge about the subject matter. Lots of [[]]s around words like "Digimon" etc would help, but rewriting with less use of jargon so that the articles are closer to intelligible English would be better. - SP-KP 1 July 2005 23:18 (UTC)
- I've torn the arse out of this article and cleaned it up as best I can see. The ridiculously long list of "notable people" is now gone, relocated over to the anime's article and shortened to a cast list of the main characters. - Chris McFeely, 8/2/05
Images?
Why on earth are there no screenshots of the anime here? They can be used by adding the {{screenshot}} tag and would greatly enhance the article. --Celestianpower hab 20:41, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

- Well, images from anime are still technically images that are copyrighted because the anime itself is copyrighted. But in either case, I doubt that anyone at Bandai or Toei will be happy to see pictures of the anime on Wikipedia. But I wouldn't know - I have no idea about this because I have never uploaded an image nor taken the time to understand the process. x42bn6 Talk 07:19, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Digital Pets
Me and my friends used the digital pets to fight for championships. There so awesome! They should make more like the original ones, with the tab code.- Pelican, 12/14/2005
>They still make tons of them in Japan: Pendulum, Pendulum Progress, Pendulum X, Digimon Accelerator, Digimon Mini. But none of them are ever brought over to the west. : (
An appeal to vandals
Yes, digimon has heavy shounen-ai content. We get it. The Gravi page hasn't suffered this much vandalism about it.
No, it's not a pokemon ripoff, unless you define "ripoff" so loosely that Evangelion is a Gundam ripoff. 209.6.230.71 00:46, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Go bug somewhere else.
- I agree, but there are times when they get to the point where the they want digimon to be destroyed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.237.52.96 (talk • contribs).
Customs?
I have commented out this from ==Fan influence==:
- Customs included starting new stories, drawing pictures for fellow FDDs, and making websites about their characters.
What does "Customs" refer to? x42bn6 Talk 09:10, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Recent edits
a lot of my recent edits have been made to consolidate information to one spot, so you don't have to edit multiple articles for one piece of information. for example, before if you wanted to make a comment on the character "Tai" there were at least 3 or 4 different articles that should be updated that contain write-ups about him. What we want to do is reduce this and direct edits towards a single article page, whatever the most appropriate article and section is for that information. This will make finding (as well as editing) information easier. See also Talk:Digimon: Digital Monsters (anime)-- Ned Scott 10:07, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

"fan influence"
I reinstated part of this section with a different header, the original was definitely inappropriate.
While the existence of FDD is easily verifiable, whether it is notable is another question entirely, and I think it is just a more systematized form of genfic, so I'm leaving it out. Circeus 17:00, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Little-known game?
"Digimon first appeared in game form on January 28, 1999 with the release of the popular Digimon World game for PlayStation."
Apparently not the first.
You'll have to go to Gamefaqs and type "Digital Monster: Version S" into the search box because they don't allow linking directly to specific pages.
Released January 1997. It must exist, because someone made an FAQ on it... 86.128.124.11 16:17, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
The game's full title is "Digital Monster Ver.S - Digimon Tamers", it's for the Sega Saturn, has an entry in the Japanese Wikipedia - http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/デジタルモンスターVer.S_~デジモンテイマーズ~ - and was released on September 23rd, 1998, according to the Japanese article and my Google searches. It wasn't January 1997 but still ahead of the PS' Digimon World. 217.237.150.107 23:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- According to gamefaqs they're two games, Digital Monster Version S and Digital Monster Version S Digimon Tamers, released in 1997 and 1998 respectively. But since I can't find anything on Digital Monster Version S I'm going to change it to Digital Monster Version S Digimon Tamers. Nightmare SE 10:09, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
It's defintely only one game, no matter what Gamefaqs says.
- [www.ign.com IGN] has only "Digimon: Version S Digimon Tamers", listed as being from 1998. IGN is as reliable as gamefaqs when it comes to game guides and info
- The Universal Videogame List also has only "Digimon: Version S Digimon Tamers" listed, also as being from 1998. the UVL is probably THE most accurate and comprehensive listing on the internet.
- The faq that exists on gamefaqs under the game "Digimon: Version S" is here. Read the opening line and notice how the author actually calls his work "DIGITAL MONSTER VER.S - DIGIMON TAMERS FAQ"
- I haven't found anything on the internet (except gamefaqs) that documents both "Version S" and "Version S Digimon Tamers" existing. Even gamespot (gamefaq's affliate) lists only one game.
I'd say the "Digimon Tamers" part is just a subtitle. Gamefaqs isn't famous for reliability when it comes to games really old games. I suspect two people probably submitted the same game under different names - and since it's not a very popular game at all, no one's noticed the game being litsed twice.
As for the date, gamefaqs and gamespot are the only places which list 1997. Gamespot gets a lot of info off its sister site gamefaqs. And the only info it has for Version S is the faq from gamefaqs. --`/aksha 13:08, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- btw, here's a screenshot of the game's title screen: File:DigiS.gif. Someone speaking japanese could come along and tell us what the katakana on the bottom says. I highly suspect it's "Digimon Tamers", which would mean "Digimon Tamers" is a subtitle. --`/aksha 13:22, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Call to Temporary Block because of Vandalism

- I only see two acts of vandalism today, and it's by the same user. I have almost all of the digimon related articles (that I'm aware of) on my watch list, and vandalism recently doesn't seem any more significant than before (although there is more activity in general). It's just something we have to deal with. -- Ned Scott 05:50, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

The Pokemon Thing
Just wondering if anyone has a source/proof for the claim that the Digimon battle pets were under development before the Pokemon games. I was going to put that in the article but then I realized that no one had ever verified that . . . Indiawilliams 03:44, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I for one would like to mention that Digimon and Pokémon have exactly the same name scheme. Just FYI. --62.100.6.186 19:04, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- ....They both have "mon" at the end of their titles... we don't have to mention that, because.. it's completely apparent by their titles alone... -- Ned Scott 21:20, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, he was meaning the actual names, so the names of pokemon and the names of digimon without the "mon" ending. For example, Seadramon in digimon and Seadra in pokemon. It's not significant, giving those kind of names is something every second fantasy rpg/series has. --Yaksha 02:12, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Digimon before Pokemon? You say the battling Tamagotchis came out in 1997, the Pokémon game came in 1996, and its said to have been in developement since the early 90s —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 200.124.56.42 (talk • contribs) .

Reception Expansion
I would like to expand this section. I know quite a bit about both the concepts of Pokémon and Digimon and how they are different, and I also know that their origins are very different. Since I am a newly registered user, how long must I wait until I will be able to make edits to this section? - Hot Dog Wolf 22:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I should point out, that the digimon vs. pokemon topic seems to be a bit contraversial. If you want to expand the section, you're very welcome, but i would recommend you find some decent sources for anything you put there.
- You'll have to wait four days from registration to edit, since the article is semi-protected. Although, it has been protected for 5 full days. I think i'll go request an unprotection. --`/aksha 01:36, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will be careful to use proven facts instead of my own spectulations and to not persuade anybody to change their views on Pokémon vs. Digimon, and instead just explain how both of those concepts were conceived and developed, as well as the key differences between the video games and animé. - Hot Dog Wolf 21:18, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
