By opting for selective (fasciscules 186 and 187) content the editors have neatly avoided Welsh church content. I had awaited with growing eagerness entries beginning with Llan- ! Clive Sweeting 11December 2017

In its coverage of Irish dioceses the DHGE provides evidence for fluctuations in ecumenical relations and ecclesiastical perception of otherness. Early entries not surprisingly omit Church of Ireland bishop lists. In 1960 Derry has a list of Protestant bishops. Thereafter Anglican bishop lists appear for Down&Connor, Dromore, Dublin (1960), Elphin, Emly (1963), Ferns (1967). Canon Aubert (1914- 2009) had time to consider his next move, for the next entries - you wait for it - Kildare, Kilfenora, Killala, Kilmore (2008) provide no such lists. Leighlin (2015) fares no better. DHGE preceded Vatican II but has in this respect since receded from it. 20 December 2017 Clive Sweeting
