Article problems

[edit]

This article was declined as a draft at AfC because it lacked independent reliable sources. The author pasted it into Wikipedia's main article space anyway. I've removed large parts of the article cited to Swaab's CV, also details about his immediate family (sourced to someone's genealogical research). Because Swaab has published so extensively and non-English language sources may exist to prove his notability as an academic, I've simply left a 'clean-up' hatnote for now. I had a quick look and am satisfied about notability, as he was the director of an institute at Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) for 30 years. At the end of his official CV web page is a link for further info, which is a full CV of 168 pages. – Fayenatic London 20:40, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Both CV's are equally unreliable because they are no doubt written by Swaab. Sionk (talk) 21:50, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
He is a quite controversial scientist with some significant media interest http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/jan/28/dick-swaab-sex-brain-theories-men-women-sexuality-womb. Been a while since he's had death threats but he was really unpopular at one point. I'll have a go at balancing the article to make it less of an advert. Why use words that are not meaningful to readers in the US and possibly elsewhere?

[edit]

"famous"

"professor" is not a title in the US. We might say, "He teaches at ..."

"full professor" would be "and now teach at" in the US

[edit]

Some talk pages have room for this; now this one does. I came to this wiki page after finding a pay-for-full-view on-line review of Dr. Swaab's book "We are our Brains" in Acta Paedeatrica, http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/apa.12830/pdf 22:11, 27 November 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by MichelleInSanMarcos (talkcontribs)

Scientist is considered controversial

[edit]

Whilst Prof Swaab is a well known academic his fame comes from his controversy, not his dry academic credentials. @Hazelares Do you believe that the term controversial was not referenced, or was incorrect? FMMonty (talk) 00:13, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While in the 1980's Swaab had very controversial idea's about sexual difference in the brain between hetero and non-hetero individuals, which caused lot of criticism, the last decades these idea's have become broadly accepted. As I am Dutch, I can tell that over here he is not considered to be controversial anymore, but rather labeled progressive in the Dutch media. Hazelares (talk) 13:29, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How many English language articles can you cite showing his fame as a non controversial scientist? This should be fairly simple, however I am unable to establish him as famous or mainstream in his research (and this article doesn't help as it has no citations).
