It's a borderline case, because as an academic researcher his record is not as strong as some. But I think, due to being an author of the books Modern Compiler Design and Programming Language Essentials, he may pass WP:PROF #3 ("An academic work may be significant or well known if, for example, it is widely used as a textbook") independently of his work on CVS.
