Current Events in the City - Mayor has refused to enforce bylaws.
[edit]Seems WikiDan61 has troubles with the posts I've added regarding factual events occuring.
Not sure what the beef is, maybe its not far left enough for the platform, but its factual.
Over the last week, many edits have been reverted and inaccurate claims are being made in the reverts.
Example: Table of available beds is uncited. - This is actually citation 14 and the data is provided by...THE CITY OF PETERBOROUGH who runs the shelters for...THE CITY OF PETERBOROUGH and collects information for THE CITY OF PETERBOROUGH.
Its troubling that facts are being removed under the guise of WikiDan61 missing citations.
It would be nice to see the problems during Ms. Therrien's reign associated with her. The executive of a company is responsible for their actions. Ms. Therrien is actively making decisions and the outcome can clearly be attributed to her.
Is this not a place for facts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trevormerritt (talk • contribs) 14:11, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- I will respond here as Trevormerritt and I have been having an extended discussion about this issue on my user talk page and I instructed him to start this discussion. The basic problem with the additions in question is that they provide a scattering of facts about crime in the vicinity of Victoria Park in Petersborough, but the citations for those facts do not specifically attribute the crimes to the homeless people living in Victoria Park. In adding these facts to the article on Ms Therrien, TrevorMerritt appears to be attempting to blame Ms Therrien for the woes of his city, while no reliable source has stated such an opinion. I should further point out (to TrevorMerritt and any other interested readers) that Victoria Park, home of the largest encampment of homeless people within Petersborough, is a county park not under the jurisdiction of the City Council or Mayor,[1] so Ms Therrien's decision whether or not to uphold the City Council's new bylaw would not affect this particular problem. Attempts to blame Ms Therrien for any crimes committed in the vicinity of Victoria Park, with no reliable sources to state this as either a fact or even a well-informed opinion, appear to me to be a grievious violation of WP:BLP and should not be allowed. I invite commentary from other editors regarding this issue. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:06, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

The refusal to attribute the outcomes of the decisions of Ms. Therrien, to Ms. Therrien is unique to this situation. In most other situations, there is a cause and effect where an action has a reaction. The action of permitting the violation of bylaws, incurs the impact of those acts.
The refusal to acknowledge that, posesstion of Cocaine after a drug transaction in the park, is related to the drug trade in the park, is ridiculous. The refusal to acknowledge that charges of attempted murder from a fight starting among those living in the tent city in Victoria Park being rleated to Victoria Park, is ridiculous. The refusal to acknowledge that the city of Peterborough is providing statistics for the City of Peterborough is ridiculous.
There is no mention of the encampment at Nichols Oval. The Nichols Oval encampment is not an isssue, nor is it being reported as a centre of violence, drugs, and intimidation. The encampment at Victoria Park however, is.
Given that this is currently impacting the downtown core of the economic centre of approximately 250,000 people in Peterborough and the surrounding communities, this is an important series of events which should be documented completely, accurately, and in association with the party that has failed to stop the issue.
When reading the page for Pierre Trudeau, one can see that he was responsible for dispatching the military during the FLQ crisis (Octover Crisis). Mr. Trudeau wasn't in Quebec in an enforcement role, he was a politician guiding those with his decisions and is responsible for the outcomes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trevormerritt (talk • contribs) 23:26, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- Again, I will point out that, as neutral writers, it is not our job to attribute outcomes to decisions, unless a reliable source has already done so. Thus far, no source has been provided that has attributed any negative outcomes to Therrien's decision (possibly because that decision is as yet less than one week old). I will also point out that Trevormerritt is attempting to blame the residents of the tent city in Victoria Park for a series of crimes that have occurred in Petersborough, when no source regarding those crimes has mentioned that the suspects are residents of that tent city. Thirdly, I will again point out that attempts to blame Ms Therrien for any of this, when no reliable source has done so, is a blatant violation of WP:BLP. RfC regarding "Tent City" allegations discussed above
[edit]Should the information regarding the Peterborough's Victoria Park tent city, and crimes in the Victoria Park vicinity, be included in this article about Peterborough's mayor? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:14, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
"A cluster of tents in that corner has been dubbed "Purpleville." That's where the campers using purple heroin live, he said."
ore evidence of the drug trade and the dangers in the park. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trevormerritt (talk • contribs) 11:27, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Trevormerritt: Yes, we know your opinion on the matter. And mine. The point of this RfC is to obtain the opinion of third parties so that we can build consensus. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:00, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
Agreed. And the more contributing factors to make an informed decision the better.
The CAO has now changed position of the city and are now enforcing the by-law through a progressive process. https://www.ptbotoday.ca/2019/08/20/19807/
That being said, those in the park are openly laughing at the request. https://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/news-story/9557194-victoria-park-tent-city-occupants-defiant-despite-bylaw/ Trevormerritt (talk) 11:28, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
Comment The RfC doesn't ask a sufficiently specific question (eg should this proposed text be included in the article?). Pincrete (talk) 12:35, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
