Merge
[edit]The creator of this page removed "{{mergeto|Valentine's Day}}
" without even discussing it here on the talk page. Merging was just a SUGGESTION. Also, Dia dos Namorados and Valentine's day are the same thing, see the Portuguese page about "Dia dos Namorados". What's the point having this page? Remember, this is English Wikipedia, not Portuguese. This article should be merged or something. --31.22.146.204 (talk) 13:32, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sorry about the rudeness of other editors simply removing the tag without engaging in talk page discussion. I'll just note that this is just one of several articles in Category:Days celebrating love and the Valentine's Day article is already fairly long, so this might probably be better handled with see also links and passing mentions. Valentines Day is not in Category:June observances, but this holiday is. Wbm1058 (talk) 14:31, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
The rendering of "Dia dos namorados" as "Boyfriends'/Girlfriends' Day" is a mistranslation. Only two men or boys can be "boyfriends" and only two women or girls can be "girlfriends". The term "namorados" typically means two people who are in a "steady" relationship. I suggest "Lovers' Day" is the only rendering possible in English, as we don't have any other gender neutral term that fits. Arguably, "Boyfriend and Girlfriend Day" is exclusive to heterosexuals in a way that the Portuguese term is not (ostensibly). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.134.52.73 (talk) 13:53, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
Page in Portuguese.
[edit]The translations section of the article mentions what in Brazil is called Dia de São Valentim. However, we must remember that "Dia dos Namorados" in Brazil is not Valentine's Day, as the latter's date clashes with Brazilian carnival. In Brazil, only the date of June is celebrated. I suggest that you remove the Portuguese page from the translation and create a new translated version for Wikipedia in Portuguese, whose name should be "Dia dos Namorados (Brasil)".
