[edit]Dharmapada: The name is Dharmapada and not Dhamapada
- I have left "idol" here as more suited to the tone, rather than change it to cult image.--Wetman 22:35, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Move back to Dharmapada (person)?
[edit]If one does a Google of "Dharmapada"[1], it appears to me that the virtually all (all?) 15,000 hits reference the Buddhist scripture more generally known by its Pali title, the Dhammapada. For instance, "Dharmapada" (Sanskrit) appears to often come up in the context of "Gandhari Dharmapada" or "Patna Dharmapada," that is, early Sanskrit editions of this scripture (which, FWIW, is arguably the best-known Pali/Theravadin text, outside of perhaps the Jataka).
In addition, until today, there were only two actual WP articles that referenced Dharmapada: Brahmin and Convent Datuk Keramat. But, from their articles' contexts, it was apparent that they meant to link to Dhammapada, so I corrected those articles. Now no WP article (outside of user talk pages and special WP pages) actually links here. Nonetheless, it is noteworthy that all (two) articles that linked here expected to be referencing the Dhammapada article.
Thus, given Google and the expectations of other WP articles, would anyone object to my moving this (back, once again) to Dharmapada (person) and then either redirecting this page to Dhammapada or making this a dab page? If no one expresses any concerns or objections within the next week or so, I'll go ahead and pursue one of these options. Thanks, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 01:34, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's been twelve days and no objections have been raised. So, unless I mangle this, I'm gonna try to move this current page to Dharmapada (person), redirect Dharmapada to Dhammapada, and then add a hatnote to the top of Dhammapada linking to Dharmapada (person) (though I'm not sure the other Dhammapada editors will let that hatnote stand...). I hope these changes seem to others to be in the best interest of WP as well, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 21:04, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Wouldn't it be morte logical to make Dharmapada a dab? Peter jackson (talk) 08:32, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm open to that. Ultimately, I chose not to do so because the overwhelming — perhaps all? — Google hits regarding "Dharmapada" referenced one of the Sanskrit texts related to the Pali Dhammapada. So, per my recollection of WP guidelines, I thought it was more correct to redirect Dharmapada to Dhammapada and put a hatnote in Dhammapada.
- Practically speaking, the down-side of the hatnote approach is that it immediately distracts readers of the Dhammapada article. So, practically speaking, I can understand the desire and could support the action of making Dharmapada a dab and removing the hatnote from Dhammapada. Wanna take the first stab at the dab?
