[edit]It would be nice to have an actual source on the claim about not having an apostrophe---I'm not trying to be skeptical, and certainly on the map it appears without an apostrophe, but "by tradition" is a little vague. I guess I'd be happy quoting the USGS as a source, but is there a better one? If the apostrophe really is inappropriate we should eventually move the article and make the apostrophe version a redirect. But I don't think it's a big deal. -- Spireguy 03:06, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- Done. I moved it and removed the "by tradition" diddy. I couldn't find a source to back it up...Jarfingle 03:17, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the death figure, I could only find three deaths, one party of two and one other single person. This is info from the AAJ. What is the source for the "three parties"? -- Spireguy 03:06, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
climbing history -- into the wild
[edit]as written now, the section makes it sounds like McCandless climbed Devil's Thumb, which is incorrect. The section about Krakauer's chapters could be struck and replaced with a link to the Into_The_Wild 65.46.169.246 (talk) 20:15, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Incorrect coordinates
[edit]The coords as given are incorrect and point to a flat place. Unfortunately there are 2 Devils Thumbs on the border that I can see so I don't know which one is the correct one. Maybe someone familiar with the area can figure this out. Google link to the southern Thumb - note another one to the NNE of this one - http://maps.google.com/maps?q=57.091873,-132.372551&ll=57.137543,-132.339249&lspn=0.1835,0.528374&num=1&t=p&vpsrc=6&z=12 Of course, it's logical that the Devil would have 2 thumbs, since he has 2 hands, but even so... --Marjaliisa (talk) 07:01, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Say what? NW face?
[edit]"most dangerous climbing proposition" wait a minute; in my hazy memory, I think George Lowe (along with maybe Chris Jones and perhaps one of his cousins (Greg?)) did a new route on the S face in the 70s. Wasn't the NW face skied? George's route could not have seen more than a couple ascents. 143.232.210.38 (talk) 21:54, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
