des moines pronunciation
[edit]Has this city always been pronounced with an es sound at the end or is that a recent change? for example des moines iowa drops the es sound. thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.255.10 (talk) 23:29, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Having lived there, it seems people in government pronounce it the same way as the Iowa city, but people who actually live there pronounce it as specified in the article. Officially, the terminal /z/ sound is dropped. In an earlier version both pronunciations were featured with explanations, but that appears to have been changed over the years. - There is no "z" or "s" pronounced in Des Moines. It is Da Moyn, period! 47.137.183.192 (talk) 08:32, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
