I don't see the point of this article. The various Derbies around the world aren't associated with each other and only some of them have anything in common. To answer the above questions. Nothing distinguishes races which include the name, except that many of them are championship races. Others such as the Winter Derby in England are not. The original Derby Epsom Derby and other prestigous ones such as the Irish, French and Kentucky Derbies are for three year olds only. That is important for the racing and bloodstock industries, but not important in the naming of the races. Simonc1 (talk) 09:53, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

It is being proposed at talk:Epsom Derby that this article be merged into Epsom Derby and that that article be renamed as "Derby (horse race)". The history section of that article already covers this article in an abbreviated form, which should be sufficient. Simonc1 (talk) 15:55, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps I'm being stupid, but I'm having trouble working out what the "three year old" restriction means. Is such a race limited to horses at least 3 years old, or at most 3 years old, or only those between the ages of 3 and 4 years?
