Proposed change - factual inaccuracy
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- Specific text to be added or removed: REMOVE: Depop and Paypal have been accused of collectively deceiving users into using their preferred private shipping partner, Evri, previously known as Hermes, a courier firm marred by allegations that its drivers mishandle parcels. Depop users who opt for using Royal Mail are penalised by being forced to pay Depop sales fees out of pocket and wait up to one month to receive their earnings. Paypal withholds those Depop user’s funds from any items sold for a minimum of 21 days from the date of sale[citation needed].
- Reason for the change: This is factually inaccurate and has no supporting references. Depop partners with Evri as its in-app shipping method, and does not have a partnership with Royal Mail. It does not penalise users who opt to use Royal Mail instead of Evri - every user gets the option to either use in-app shipping or arrange their own. Fees are taken from all sales (unless under a promotion that gives free fees/shipping) regardless of the shipping method a user selects. Depop partners with PayPal as an payment option, but offers the choice between this and Depop Payments (which is Apple Pay, own debit card managed by Stripe). Depop does not control or dictate Paypal withholding transactions, so this isn’t specific to any carrier and certainly doesn’t relate to whether a seller uses in-app shipping.
