Discussion

We want to have seperate articles for each departments of BUET. A lot of universities have them.

Please try to browse some of these: McGill University Department of Physics Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta

Don't you think this article on BUET serves better than the two mentioned articles as a wikipedia article. --116.193.170.18 (talk) 03:42, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't think this article has enough content in itself at this moment. Most of the content overlaps with things already in the main BUET page. Also, WP:OTHERSTUFF is not an argument to justify a non-notable topic. Thank you. --Ragib (talk) 05:52, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I didn't know about the other page argument, so truly sorry. But still I cannot agree that BUET can't have different articles for different departments. The article is a stub and eventually morph into a full article. If you merge it into BUET article, the article will be clumsy.

I didn't mean that as McGill university articles exists so BUET articles should exist. What I meant was that the moderators should also tag those articles for merging.

I strongly oppose merging this article. --116.193.170.18 (talk) 06:08, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, can you justify the existence of this article? Disregard other articles at this moment. That they exist or don't exist is irrelevant. What notability do we see in this (or the CSE dept) article? Both of the articles sound exactly like a brochure or an advertisement from the university website. That the department hosted a conference is a trivial matter. That it has an IEEE student branch is also trivial. That its students get into good companies is a) not supported by references b) irrelevant/non-remarkable. Take *any* major or minor university, and you can find these trivial matters about their departments. If this article is put on AFD today, it will just get unanimous speedy merge votes. I don't want to drag it there, so unless you provide justification on what event(s) make this department encyclopedic, I will merge it with the main university page soon (and do the same withe the CSE department page). Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 06:18, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment. I think I get the point. Can you please give a good example of a department page, so that I can edit the page. --116.193.170.18 (talk) 06:43, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
