Article creation

As created, this is not a satisfactory article, though it serves to retain User:Lobsterthermidor's work which was originally in Orleigh Court, where it was mostly not relevant. This provenance has meant that the article contains too much detail about the Devon branch of the family, whereas for balance the largest part should be about the (apparently) more significant Gloucestershire branch. I also have reservations about placing the three branches in one article since it's not clear that they were actually part of the same family: there may therefore be an element of original research here too. I hope that someone more knowledgeable in this subject than me will remedy these faults in due course.  —SMALLJIM  16:42, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

I know a fair bit about this family and will try to help. It would be difficult to say which was more prominent, Glos or Devon. The Devon family of Bicton was very prominent temp. Henry VIII. The Denys family of Orleigh at its extinction was one of the oldest families in Devon to continuously occupy the same manor, hence the importance of the family to Orleigh Court and to the history of Devon. Possible original research

I've flagged a couple of uncited sentences in the Denys of Devon section that appear to be original research because they use the phrases "From the similarity of arms it is possible that..." and "If the family was related ... it is therefore likely...". I hope it can be shown that these two sentences can be reliably sourced and are not the opinion of the editor.  —SMALLJIM  13:22, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
