John Kerry

What do people think of having John Kerry as a "native of Denver?" Though, he was born in at Fitzsimmons, which is in Aurora, I believe that at the time he was born, the hospital was not part of any city, so they considered babies born there to be born in Denver. I think there is a Rocky Mountain News info-box about that. Does anyone have information corroborating this?

Can't corroborate that, but I believe you're right. the Fitzsimmons army base borders on Denver, as does Aurora. At the time Aurora was a very small place, and I don't believe Fitzsimmons was considered part of it. Doovinator 16:21, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

Fitzsimons is spelled with one m. It is probably true that the Army Hospital was not part of any city at the time of Kerry's birth; in any case, it was at least adjacent to Aurora and certainly closer to Aurora than Denver.

It's a stretch to say that the former Army post bordered on Denver, as it was located in and surrounded by Adams County. Which is another reason not to place Fitzsimons in "Denver": the land occupied by the facility was always in Adams County, which by definition places it outside the City and County of Denver. Logic says that, if a location is not actually within a certain city's limits, it is better to associate that location with the nearest city within the same county rather than with a city in a different county that is also farther away.

Of course, today what is now known as the Fitzsimons Campus is within the Aurora city limits (and has an Aurora ZIP code, etc.) When reporting on Kerry's campaign last year, The New York Times, USA Today, and other major newspapers all indicated "Aurora, Colorado" as Kerry's birthplace. Is anyone suggesting a change to the article? It currently says born at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, Denver's eastern neighbor. I'm just wondering if anyone is not happy with this wording and is suggesting changing it. If so, how about born at Fitzsimons Army Hospital, near Denver (or we could go the pendantic route with something like born at Fitzsimons Army Hospital which at the time was in unincorporated Adams County but is now in Aurora, Denver's eastern neighbor). -- Rick Block (talk) 18:28, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Neighborhood section

What do people think about the how the neighborhoods are listed in a box underneath the map? Is this necessary? I think they take too much space, don't look very good, and repeat information that is already in the map. I think I will delete it, though people can bring it back if they think it is necessary. If somebody does, we should try to make it look better. Maybe just a simple list with rows, or something Vertigo700

Economy section

I would like to start a section on the Denver economy. We could have a list of companies based in Denver and the environs (Qwest, Frontier Airlines, Newmont Mining), and include a picture of the downtown skyline (maybe 17th st, or the Wall Street of the West). I don't have a lot of information or a picture, but can start the section if other people are willing to contribute to it. I would especially like to include some economic history, but being a college student in Illinois, I don't really have a lot of knowledge. If people would like to suggest some links that would be great.

Update2: So, I found a picture of the Daniels and Fischer building on the 16th street mall, and but that on the economy section. I really don't think its that great though, so by all means change it if you got something better. Vertigo700

Expanding Denver related stubs

I have been busy expanding Denver-related stubs. So far, I have done LoDo and Capitol Hill. Please feel free to continue the expansion of these articles as well as others. Also, the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Four Mile House, Buckhorn Exchange, and Richthofen Castle articles still need to be done, as they have links to our page. Layout

I prefer a layout where all the sections that are just lists (Colleges and Universities, Sports teams, etc.) are at the end of the article, and the sections with more detailed information all follow each other at the begining. I am going to change it that. If people have problems with that, then use this space as a discussion and we can take another look in a few days.

Getting too long?

Our page has reached the 30KB stage, which is great because we have a lot of a great content. At the same time though, perhaps we should have a discussion on what in here could perhaps be summarized and moved to its own page. Personally, I don't have a problem with the way it is now, but we should look at it and see if there aren't somethings that are wasteful, or really should be moved. What do you think? At 33 kilobytes, I think we have to face that this thing is getting a bit big. I suggest making history of denver and the economy sections their own pages, possibly expanding those sections with more information in regards to metropolitan Denver with brief sections on this page outlining the important parts especially as they relate to the city itself. Neighborhood pic

I just noticed that the neighborhood pic in the geography section is no longer working. I tried messing with the picture, but it didnt fix it. Does anyone know why the picture is no longer there and/or how we can fix it. I thought it was very useful, and think we should try to get it back if possible or make a new one. The image had no source information and was deleted. According to the history, it was originally uploaded by user:Marvinfreeman, who's made just one edit in the past year (about 6 weeks ago). Ok, so I found a US government map of the Denver neighborhoods that was used for some sort of HUD thing. It had a bunch of junk on it, but I cleaned it up, changed the fonts, and made it nicer in general. There are a few problems with it (notably, it cuts off half of Green Valley Ranch, but I think its pretty good for now. Vertigo700 05:14, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Residents

I edited out that seperation of "non-natives" and natives. With almost every non-native person it states where they're from, etc. If anyone wants it back in, add it back. I didn't think it belonged. Poor Wording

The opening sentence is extremely complex and poorly worded. I highly suggest a revision.

"The City and County of Denver is the largest city and capital of the state of Colorado in the United States of America."

It must be trying to convey at least two or three facts--I can't quite tell. In any case, it could be broken down into a much more readable form.

Good picture

The picture of the city and county building is the best addition to the article all year. A picture of current Larimer Square would be nice too. -User:Editor19841
