1980s

[edit]

Double-breasted suits, with or without pinstripes, came back into fashion in the mid to late 80s. There were cases of young men wearing their granddad's demob suit for a laugh, and many others were semi-jokingly accused by their mates of doing so. We'd need a source of course. We have young fogey but it doesn't mention demob suits. I will keep a look out. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:54, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

They weren't all young fogeys - many of them were relatively normal guys. Conversely the single-breasted cut which had been ultra-fashionable when worn by Sean Connery or JFK in the early 1960s was known derisively in the early 90s as "an old man's suit".Paulturtle (talk) 02:43, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reminds me of Anne Hollander who found meaning in not just the suit, but even the burqa. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:03, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
