Move Scheddi to Deneb Algedi

[edit]

I support this move... but then, I made the initial proposal. Go figure. Lusanaherandraton 11:35, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have renamed to Delta Capricorni, as part of an overall move to use Bayer designation titles except for a small number of very commonly known stars (Arcturus, Vega, Polaris, Castor, Pollux, etc). This is in keeping with Wikipedia policy to use the most commonly used names, since obscure traditional names are not very commonly used (when Delta Scorpii brightened recently, the article in Sky and Telescope called it "Delta Scorpii", not "Dschubba"). Also traditional names have multiple names or multiple spelling variations for the same star, or lend themselves to confusion (this is particularly the case in Capricornus, where Giedi is apparently Beta but Algiedi is Alpha, and Algedi is Alpha but Deneb Algedi is Delta !?), and there are even cases where two stars in entirely different constellations have identical traditional names ("Gienah" = Gamma Corvi or Epsilon Cygni). -- Curps 06:53, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! This does solve the problem in an elegant manner! Lusanaherandraton 14:05, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
