[edit]

I am starting review!
Some points to remember.

  • I'll keep on adding points as I'll go.
  • Active participation of nominator and primary contributors of this article will be highly appreciated.

  • If no one joins the discussion, after waiting for few days, I'll try to to finish the review quickly by adding all the points. A
  • If you see I (reviewer) is not active in the review discussion, please send me a message in my talk page to ping me!

  • As a result, land prices are booming and Delhi is currently ranked the 7th most expensive office hotspot in the world

– Currently? When? The reference you have added is retrieved in 2007, so clarification needed! --Tito Dutta 21:35, 9 June 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]

  • The former Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was recently trifurcated into three smaller Municipal Corporations - North Delhi, South Delhi and East delhi.

– Reference was retrieved in 2006, clarify "recently"! --Tito Dutta 21:35, 9 June 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]

Collapsed content  Done

According to MOS:COLLAPSE#Scrolling_lists_and_collapsible_contentScrolling lists, and boxes that toggle text display between hide and show, should not conceal article content... If "Population Growth of Delhi" is article content, that should not be collapsed, and that is a small box, that'll not take a lot of space in the article! --Tito Dutta 21:35, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The template Template:India census population it self is like that. Whereever the template is used, it is in collapse form because the template is like that. Please let me know if you want me to change the "template". →TSU tp* 01:10, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If the template is like that then no need! Surely, the template has been used in some more articles. You can change the template if you are the creator of it, otherwise forget it, let me see I may add a note in template's talk later! --Tito Dutta 13:47, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Light bulb iconBChange the first portion of the code (in the article, not in template) like this:
{{IndiaCensusPop|state=
It'll be expanded! --Tito Dutta 18:06, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Indic Text template

There is Indic Text in the article, add an Indic Text template or remove the Indic text! --Tito Dutta 21:35, 9 June 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]

It is believed..

This fort is believed to be constructed in Purana Qila area. – who believed so? Also add a citation there! --Tito Dutta 21:35, 9 June 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]

Spelling MOS:TIES

Notable among Delhi's arts and crafts are the Zardozi (an embroidery done with gold thread) and Meenakari (the art of enameling). if you are following BrEn then the spelling is "enamelling"  Done

Hindi Delhi

He ordered to construct a gateway (Hindi: देहली) – Hindi: देहली for what? Is "gateway" in देहली? --Tito Dutta 14:00, 10 June 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]

Idioms
  • Abhi Dilli door hai etc –Well I have some personally uncanny feeling with this part. I am not asking to make any change right now, but I am actually requesting your opinion. For example, Aas-paas barse, Dilli pari tarse– very musical! Well, when this phrase became famous? If we know the time we can easily relate that time's socio-economic condition of Delhi. It will be an exciting brain work for a reader is not!
  • Abhi Dilli door hai I definitely want to learn when it became popular since it contradicts with Bose's "Chalo Delhi and specially "Delhi ab door nahi". Will it be possible to add timeline there?
  • Also I am confused if you need to use IPA for Hindi there, since a non-Hindi speaker-reader will not understand the pronunciation of these phrases! --Tito Dutta 14:00, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

--Tito Dutta 14:00, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is tough to find a reliable source which says that particularly when did the idiom became famous so I guess that it is not possible to add a timeline, your thoughts? On IUPAC, I need help, I haven't done it before and I m confused but I'll figure out in 1-2 days. →TSU tp* 07:42, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
AD BC CE BCE  Done

This is another question. Are you using AD-BC or BE-BCE in the article? Currently you are using both!
Example of usage of AD-BC

  • Tomara dynasty founded the city of Lal Kot in AD 736
  • who built the city in 50 BC and named it after himself.
  • Human habitation was probably present in and around Delhi during the second millennium BC and before,

Example of usage of CE-BCE

  • Settlements grew from the time of the Mauryan Empire (c. 300 BCE).
  • Delhi is known to have been continuously inhabited since at least the 6th century BCE.

Sports in Delhi section  Done

Can you start the section little bit differently. Currently it seems you are writing on "Sports in Delhi in recent years". Commonwealths Games was undoubtedly a very big event in Delhi recently, but that does not mean you'll highlight it on the very first line of the section. I like the first line of the article Sport in DelhiSports in Delhi have a long and distinguished history. Delhi is the prime and capital city of India. It has hosted many major international tournaments and has professional teams in different sports. This immediately informs readers that the city has a rich and long sports history. If you can add at least one introductory line like this with a citation that'll be excellent! Let me know your opinion! --Tito Dutta 15:11, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How is this? →TSU tp* 07:38, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Section 02  Done

[edit]
Temple or temple  Done

Either use first letter cap or first letter small in the word temple! Example: Meenakshi temple Akshardham Temple, also note in the article Akshardham Temple t has been used! --Tito Dutta 15:21, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

History of Delhi has been referred twice  Done

In History section you have added History of Delhi as Main article. Also in lead you have written–(Refer to History of Delhi for more.)! --Tito Dutta 15:45, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OVERLINK  Done
  • Qutub Minar– has been linked thrice! Not a big problem, but still, can you unlink one at least?
  • Delhi Metro– has been linked 3+1=4 times, since Delhi Metro Rail Corporation also redirects to Delhi Metro!
  • Hinduism– has been linked thrice!
  • Mahabharata–linked thrice! etc --Tito Dutta 15:45, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Indic text template  Done

It is not very helpful to tell someone that actually this article contained some Indic script when he has finished reading the whole article since you have place the template at bottom (below external links section) --Tito Dutta 15:45, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ref—improve  Done

Citation 8, 9, 10, 11 – Now the references has been added like ''<ref>[http://www.travinfoindia.com/india-tours/golden-triangle.html]</ref>'' etc. please add ref title at least! Or you can also rewrite those using cite web etc templates! --Tito Dutta 15:50, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

INR and INR Convert template  Done
  • See "Reviewer's edit #03" below. I personally prefer INRConvert template, lakhs, crores these words are not very common for native speakers of English. Why don't you use the converter rather than writing the equivalent US$ etc manually?
  • In some places you have used template, but few other places you have written manually "Indian Rupees" or "Rs." (see Economy section for example). What do you think– use everywhere with INRConvert where it'll be possible and applicable?
  • Need help? This is a big task. You need to revise the whole article. I can help here! After making some changes (if you are planning to make this change), you can mention some sections here, I'll make changes in those sections! --Tito Dutta 17:54, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alt text please  Done

Add alt text in some images at least. See #01, #02 in reviewer's edits below. I am personally a very bad alt text writer. And I have seen most of the alt texts are of very average standard. For example if I write in alt "Blue sky" and if a person is blind, how (s)he will understand what is blue? :-) But, still I suggest to add alt texts at least in some images. Well, something is better than nothing. See WP:ALT for alt text related help.

Dwaipayan's observations  Done

Many data have not been updated since 2006 or 2007. As a result, "as of 2006" or "as of 2007" are there. Please update these information, if available.--Dwaipayan (talk) 22:57, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I had a quick look. Seems old "as of" data have been appropriately updated. No problem in this front. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:48, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dead ref  Done

It seems all dead refs are not fixed, I am going to tag in article! --Tito Dutta 09:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed  Done

[edit]
copy edited, add citations, expanded into two paragraphs; as there is no daughter article so i think two paragraphs are reasonable to cover the topic. If not suitable kindly re-store to previouse version. Regards :)--Omer123hussain (talk) 17:11, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I appreciate the efforts. →TSU tp* 17:20, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Shah Jahan built the seventh city of Delhi that bears his name (Shahjahanabad), and is more commonly known as the "Old City" or "Old Delhi". The old city served as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1638. --Tito Dutta 21:35, 9 June 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  • In 1911, the capital of British India was transferred from Calcutta to Delhi, following which a team of British architects led by Edwin Lutyens designed a new political and administrative area, known as New Delhi, to house the government buildings. New Delhi, also known as Lutyens' Delhi, was officially declared as the capital of the Union of India after the country gained independence on 15 August 1947. --Tito Dutta 21:35, 9 June 2012 (UTC)  Done[reply]
Take time! I am following your edits carefully! --Tito Dutta 10:48, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections/clarifications

[edit]
  • though human habitation is believed to have existed since between the third and second millennia BC this sentence in lead, can you change it to something else? Firstly who believes there is not citation? Anyway, if we ignore this minor issue, then do you mean– have existed there in Delhi? --Tito Dutta 19:02, 30 June 2012 (UTC) Done[reply]
  • I am not very sure, but is there any Wikipedia article on King Dhillu? I tried to find but could not, do you know? --Tito Dutta 19:07, 30 June 2012 (UTC) Not done[reply]

I feel the article need some more details about the flora and fauna of the territory. This can include state symbols, forest area statistics, etc. See West Bengal#Flora and fauna to get an idea. In the "Civic administration" section, details about the governing political parties should be added, as in the "Government and politics" section. The culture section needs to have information about films and costumes, as in West Bengal#Films and West Bengal#Costumes.. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 10:09, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. WB is a FA and also this addition will take some time. I m  Working on it but I fear that it might take more time so is there any problem is the work is totally completed after GA review gets over? →TSU tp* 14:23, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! I understand that it takes time. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 11:19, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Vaibhav Jain, have you seen the recent updates? Any comment? --Tito Dutta 17:35, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Given that this is a GA review, the article is fin enough to be promoted. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 16:26, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just some additional notes. Due to the magnitude of crime in Delhi, the article can have a separate section for crime related acts; look at New York City#Crime to get an idea. Also in case the content is available, having a section on "Military" will a good option. Again refer to the NYC article to get an idea. (Note-This is not regarding the GA review. All sections I have advised are to make the article "comprehensive"; however to be a GA, they only need to be "broad", which this article is. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 16:36, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! NYC is about to be a FA and most probably, I'll nominate it as I worked a lot on it. Delhi is my next goal for FA. Once it passes GA, I shall start improving as NYC is. I m having little busy schedule so no time now to expand but will have in future. →TSU tp* 16:40, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, not failed (nor passed still). It is my (bad) habit to divide the final assessment in some steps, see a similar assessment here: Talk:Mohandas_Karamchand_Gandhi/GA2#Review_template. I'll let you know if anything needs to be done! Keep this page in your watchlist! --Tito Dutta 17:34, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it is on my watchlist. I even watchlisted this page when it was a red link and was waiting to be created as Delhi is something special to me and I don't want it to fail due to any minor problem. So I was little impatient and impulsive, sorry :) →TSU tp* 17:41, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I even watchlisted this page when it was a red link – Excellent! I'll not a quick fail this article. In another article, I kept requesting to participate for 2 months See Talk:Islam/GA1#Comments, even after that I was waiting, but another editor closed the review! So, be assured. I'll let you know if you need to do something. --Tito Dutta 18:53, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Final assessment

Like others I also feel, the current version of the article is a good article. Thanks Vaibhav and Dwaipayan fro participating in this review. --Tito Dutta 00:13, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
