Semi-Protection

[edit]

I am formally suggesting this page be given the Semi-Protected status as a preventative measure; due to the name of the article, I believe it would be inevitable for it to be vandalized. --12.15.136.27 (talk) 17:31, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

'Please delete'

[edit]

@Crouch, Swale: Do you have any thoughts on Please delete being unsalted and redirected here? Or perhaps to Deletion of articles on Wikipedia#Overview of processes? — Alalch Emis (talk) 15:27, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Alalch Emis: A Google search returns the song first and the other results are for deleting other things and nothing for Wikipedia shows up. "Please delete" doesn't show up at all in Deletion of articles on Wikipedia and its not clearly synonymous with it. A Wikipedia search for "Please delete" returns 3 results none of which would likely be viable DAB entries. So a redirect would IMO not be helpful and would be vague/ambiguous anyway. You could take it to DRV to see if anyone has any ideas but I don't think this one is viable. While readers looking in an encyclopedia are unlikely to put in "Please delete" looking for how to delete a post on Facebook or how to delete a file on their computer etc I can't see how the term is specific to WP. @Crouch, Swale: It's a bit silly/preposterous, but this name seems to only be about people requesting deletion on Wikipedia and not knowing how to do it. I gather that pages appearing under this name come from two causes: (1) people creating pages with a "message to Wikipedia" that something be deleted, (2) people moving a page they created which they want deleted to "Please delete" (and presumably blanking it) At some point it even seems like a cross-namespace redirect was made (probably like the 'Articles for deletion' cross-namespace redirect) and was duly deleted. Finally, the page was salted, and there stands a message "If you would like to delete a page you created, place {{db-user}} at the top of it; otherwise read Wikipedia:Deletion policy". But it isn't very legible and noticeable. Not a normal place to offer such guidance. Alternative is redirecting to say, the disambiguation page, which would effectuate an answer: "You want us to delete? These are the processes, so this is how you would properly request it", and it's much more legible and comprehensive. I'm coming at this from a WP:R#KEEP point 5 perspective. I thought it'd be kinda fun to consider this absolute edge case. A triviality. — Alalch Emis (talk) 20:04, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
