Fleet numbers
[edit]This is all WP:OR, but... looking at the fleet lists on the company's website, it seems as if buses didn't have fleet numbers until after World War II. At some point between December 1945 and October 1948, fleet numbers were allocated, on the following plan:
- numbers 1-15 were left unused, but allotted to the 15 vehicles withdrawn between 1928 and 1940, in order of acquisition
- numbers 16-18 were given to existing buses in reverse order of acquisition - newest first
- numbers 19-26 were given to existing coaches in normal order of acquisition
- numbers 27 upwards were then available for future acquisitions, allotted in strict numerical order, which as of July 2019 have reached no. 166
Unusually for a small operator, numbers left blank by withdrawal are not reused. The fleet has rarely exceeded thirty vehicles, there can't be many fleets where there are nearly five times as many blank numbers in the list as numbers in use. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:42, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
