I'll review this. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 13:52, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are five audio samples. I'm not an expert on requirements for non-free usage, but this seems like a lot. Is it really the case that the reader's understanding is damaged without all five?
I guess not, but that leaves me perplexed as to which ones I should remove. Deftones really is an extremely varying band from record to record, so I don't know what the correct course of action is. dannymusiceditor oops 02:56, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know the band, but maybe there are a couple of samples that demonstrate techniques or sounds that are associated with the band? For example, the second sample says "This shows the album's cleaner production and a tendency toward more melody in the music" -- neither of these sound like defining characteristics for Deftones. Judging just from the descriptions I'd say 1 and 4 seem to be the most specific to the band. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:45, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Going by prior example, Smashing Pumpkins is a Featured Article with three samples present. I was surprised you chose to axe the sample of Change (in the house of flies) given it is their most commercially successful single. The Pumpkins article includes 1979 for the same reason. - Phorque (talk) 20:22, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would have thought it best to cut it because less of what its caption had was difficult to explain with prose instead, but I can follow another example. How well maintained is the Pumpkins' article? IIRC it was promoted almost a decade ago (it might be by now); that was long before I arrived on the scene. If it's still in tiptop shape like an FA should be, I'll follow it. dannymusiceditor oops 15:53, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are a lot of fiddly details about versions and tracks at the end of the "White Pony" section. There's a separate article about the album; could this be compressed a bit? Readers interested in the details can read the sub-article.
  • There's an uncited sentence at the start of the "Eros sessions" section.
  • There are several parts of the US known as the Gold Coast; can you be more specific in the caption, or make it a link?
As a matter of fact, it was in Australia.
  • I think it would be useful to the reader to make it clear early on that Eros was never released; perhaps "...initially set to be released early in 2009, but was delayed. As of 2018 it has still not been released."
  • You have a harv link from "Buckley 2003" that doesn't go anywhere; and the Berelian is not pointed to by any footnote. These appear to be the same, so I think it's just a matter of connecting them. It looks like footnote 11 should go to the same source.
I honestly don't know how to fix the harv links, I tried to do it correctly this time and I still screwed it up. Can you help me with this one? dannymusiceditor oops 02:56, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I never use them myself and have no idea how they work. It's not an issue for GA since a reader can figure it out, but you'd need to get help from someone who understands them if you want to take this to FAC. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:47, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think I fixed it? Anyway I think that should do it except for the tour archive which I'm doing now. dannymusiceditor oops 17:53, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • What makes the following reliable sources?
  • deftonesworld.com
This isn't a terribly reliable source, I was going to use this as only supplemental referencing compared to more reliable ones. Little depth coverage of Deftones' early days exist. I'll fix it up and ask what you think when I have it proper.
Decided to scrap it instead. dannymusiceditor oops 15:36, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it's still used in the White Pony section? Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:48, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed that. It was an interview transcription. dannymusiceditor oops 13:46, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • idiomag.com
Replaced with Blabbermouth.
  • noisecreep.com
Noisecreep is owned by Loudwire and Townsquare Media, which have been deemed professional organizations.
  • gunsrazorsknives.com
Please read the "Diamond Eyes" section for more context. It is there to cite its own existence.
  • antiquiet.com
Swapped with NME.
  • Deadlinks with no archive link -- only the first has to be fixed for GA (since it's a bare URL), though you may prefer to fix both:
  • fn 40
  • fn 61
These two are completely shot. I have looked around for replacement references with this content but none seems to exist. The former can be removed anyway - I think you'd call that a "fiddly detail", right?
Yes -- not meant as an insult, as I hope was clear; I like fiddly details in the articles I work on. Just thought it could be kept in the child article. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:30, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Didn't take it that way, we're clear now. dannymusiceditor oops 01:33, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • There's a large text overlap with this external wiki; I assume they started with the Wikipedia article at some point? I'll have to pick some of the duplicated text and trace it in both versions to prove that, so I'll come back to this one.

That's everything I can spot. Generally this is in pretty good shape; the prose isn't quite where it would need to be for FAC, but it meets the GA requirements, and the article is well-organized. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 14:56, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Mike Christie: Just checking to see if you emailed the nominator, which was requested in the GAN template. Thanks! Kees08 (Talk) 04:44, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, and they said it was fine to go ahead with the review. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:24, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just updated my notes above. The only points left for GA are the audio samples, and the suggestion to make it clearer in the text that Eros was never released. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 10:50, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

...and there's still one use of deftonesworld.com. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 22:21, 26 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Is it okay to use if it's a transcription of an interview? dannymusiceditor oops 15:54, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately I don't think so. If a site's unreliable we can't assume it has reliably transcribed an interview. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 01:10, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
How about a tour archive (that's all that's left)? I can find another eventually but can it pass at the moment?
Sorry, I don't see how I can justify it. We can get a second opinion if you like, but I'd suggest moving those sentences to the talk page and moving them back when you find a better source. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 12:06, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Are we finished here? dannymusiceditor oops 18:15, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We are indeed. There's a suggestion above about Eros that I think you missed, but I'm not going to hold up GA for that. Promoting. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:18, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
