Deep being investigated by NIA

[edit]

How is this is a information when it comes to Wikimedia..?? 2409:4053:2E0D:EB56:FA4F:7E0F:A99B:8B33 (talk) 20:00, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IF you are Sahil0502, which seems you are, go through the links mentioned here, you will learn how to add sources. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:04, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the line about this for WP:BLPCRIME reasons. Without enough sources and background included to show that this has received significant coverage, it's not something that should be in the article. Ravensfire (talk) 19:41, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ravensfire: OK. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:41, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV Dispute

[edit]

Unless verified by official investigation agencies, claims that a person is close to certain people should not be made. Shubhams123 (talk) 18:42, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unverified claim

[edit]

Jattlife121, you changed the wording here claiming he is

known for taking a leading role in the 2020 farmers protest.[1][2]

References

The first source gives a statement of the SGPC President. It is a WP:PRIMARY source and cannot be cited for statments of fact. The second source has no mention of farmers' protest at all. Can you provide proper sources for your claim? Note also that as a Wikipedia editor, you need to follow WP:NPOV (please read that page!) -- Kautilya3 (talk) 13:18, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you have referenced Wikipedia:NPOV , however you've edited the article going against NPOV referencing other movements irrelevant to Deep Sidhu and the purposes of this page.
https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/deep-sidhu-dies-in-accident-all-you-need-to-know-about-the-actors-role-in-farmers-agitation-2771004 "Deep Sidhu played an active role in the farmers' protest against the three farm laws, which were withdrawn by the Centre in November 2021"
https://www.thequint.com/news/india/deep-sidhu-dies-in-road-accident-sonepat-farmers-protest-punjab "Deep Sidhu became part of the farmers' protest much before the protesters came to Delhi – and played a key role in mobilising the youth. He was a leading part of the Shambhu Morcha or the sit-in protest at the Shambhu Barrier between Punjab and Haryana."
Here are two sources. I can provide many more. Have a good day Sir. Jattlife121 (talk) 13:33, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Still not verified. active role ≠ leading role. part of the protest ≠ leading role. youth ≠ farmers. Shambhu Morcha ≠ farmers' protest. You are doing WP:SYNTHESIS. The sources don't say what you say. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 14:35, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are picking and choosing what you want to hear. "Played a key role in mobilising the youth" its evident to what it eludes to. Furthermore, why have you said "trying to taking a leading role" you have also spelt trying wrong. Furthermore, you have referenced separatism in the introduction which is not related to Deep Sidhu. This can be referenced later on the page. Jattlife121 (talk) 00:29, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry *leading has been spelt wrong. Furthermore, the hypocrisy of someone telling me with to follow WP:NOV when them themselves have ignore this and used one sided source when others have been provided above. Jattlife121 (talk) 00:37, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Here is my version of the lead:

Sidhu entered political arena in 2019, campaigning for the BJP candidate Sunny Deol, and later trying to take a leadng role in the 2020 farmers protest.[1] A few months before his untimely death in a road accident, he founded a Punjabi Sikh socio-political organisation Waris Panjab De, which has turned into a pro-Khalistan organisation by 2023.[2][3][4]

  2. ^ How extremist elements hijacked farmers' rally and Deep Sidhu’s role in chaos, The Tribune, 27 January 2021. "The 'Shambu morcha', as he called it, soon started receiving "live streaming" support from some pro-Khalistan channels and Deep Sidhu would often attack the 'Leftist' leadership of the unions. He would cite the example of Jews and motivate people to fight for a "Sikh homeland"."

  • My wording of "trying to take a leading role" is clearly supported by the cited source. You have no reason to remove it or to change it.
  • His organisation has turned into pro-Khalistan organisation by 2023 is clearly an established fact. I can produce dozens of sources for it. His own role in driving the organisation towards the Khalistan movement is witnessed in the three citations. His Shambhu Morcha itself received pro-Khalistan groups' support. By the time of his death, his own supporters believed that he supported the Khalistan cause. Afterwards, the organisation got taken over by pro-Khalistan leaders and activists.

So, what exactly is your problem with these wordings? -- Kautilya3 (talk) 15:58, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The lead should stand on its own as a concise overview of the article's topic. It should identify the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points, including any prominent controversies.

-- Kautilya3 (talk) 16:11, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From your other edits, it's clear there is a narrative you have particularly against Sikh pages. If you are using Wikipedia it must be in good faith. "Active role" has been used instead of leading to keep neutrality and despite that you still are changing and editing. We aren't going to reach a consensus with you as you constantly are editing using a one sided narrative. Furthermore, whether that organisation is separatist has no relation to the introduction of that main page as irrelevant to Sidhu. This can be placed later on down in the wikipedia article under the organisation .
"trying to take a leading role" - Other sources completely dispute this as per listed below: Can you read ?
https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/deep-sidhu-dies-in-accident-all-you-need-to-know-about-the-actors-role-in-farmers-agitation-2771004 "Deep Sidhu played an active role in the farmers' protest against the three farm laws, which were withdrawn by the Centre in November 2021"

I will be undoing the edit again. In know way does Active indicate a positive or negative connotation. But your phrase "taking a leading role" is clearly biased take despite other sources going against this. Jattlife121 (talk) 01:27, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you keep reinstating your content without WP:CONSENSUS, you are going to get blocked.
  • "Active role" does not in any way contradict "attempting to take a leading role". Tens of thousands of people played an "active role". It is hardly notable or lead-worthy. They don't get Wikipedia pages for taking an "active part". This is really of no relevance to the lead.
  • The Quint report is quite poor. Internet news portals can't measure up to established newspapers which have ground reporters that know what is going on. Sidhu didn't just become "part" of the agitation. He questioned the leadership of the protests, according to The Tribune (which is a Chandigarh newspaper with the best local knolwdge). He was "shunned" by the farmer unions. Then he launched his own Shambhu Morcha. I haven't seen any evidence that it had any participation from farmers. But "youth" were enthused. Sidhu was trying to change the agenda: instead of farmers' protest, he wanted a Punjab protest, a Sikh protest, a Khalsa protest, which the union leaders didn't buy. In effect, he was trying to "hijack" the movement for his own agenda (words used by The Tribune).
  • He was chased away by farmers after he hoisted a Sikh flag at Red Fort (accorrding to The Telegraph). His "pro-Khalistani" utterances at Shambhu and in a Barkha Dutt interview made him "unacceptable" to the majority of farmers' unions. "Farmers rejected Deep Sidhu" says The Telegraph
Pleas don't tell me that you can't comprehend any of this. WP:NPOV means summarising fairly and proportionately what the reliable sources say. It doesn't mean, pick what you like and throw out the rest. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 03:28, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wife and daughter

[edit]

I couldn't find any references about the wife and daughter in any RS. I'm wondering if it is at all true. I could only find info on Reena Rai — DaxServer (t · m · c) 16:12, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year

[edit]

@Kautilya3, DaxServer, Ravensfire, and Gotitbro: Hi, it is regarding his birth year. If the subject's driver licence 'lists his year of birth as 1979' per The Quint sourced within a note, aren't we suppose to mention that instead of 1984 which are listed by India Today and News NCR, the latter being a non-RS. And the India Today source may well be a CIRCULAR of this Wikipedia article? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:54, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I pulled the driving license age to the main body. I don't think we should change the infobox because The Quint attributed it to the driving license without taking responsibility. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 19:06, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe note both of them with the sources disagreeing? Ravensfire (talk) 20:10, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ravensfire: Like the Mariah Carey article, when it had multiple birth years mentioned in the IB? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 20:24, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, and other pages with similar scenarios. Ravensfire (talk) 22:38, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
