I am looking at setting up a disambiguation page for the name Deep Bay. As might be expected for such a generic geographic name, there are many places of that name including Deep Bay, Deep Bay crater, Parry_Sound/Deep_Bay_Water_Aerodrome, Deep_Bay_(marina/village)_British_Columbia, Deep_Bay,_British_Columbia. There is also a lovely little bay on Jedediah Island, in British Columbia that might be referred to. Their is an airport in Alaska (WDB) referred to as Deep Bay airport, a small community in central Newfoundland Canada called Deep Bay and a place called Deep Bay, Antigua in the Carribean. I propose to move this page to Deep Bay, Hong Kong so that Deep Bay can be used for the disambiguation page but, since this page is quite developed and well done, I thought I ought to let anyone watching it know in advance. Should we move this page to Shenzhen Bay?

Nowadays Deep Bay is more commonly referred to Shenzhen Bay in China, and I have seen some instances it is also referred so in the Hong Kong side (eg Shenzhen Bay Control Point). I read that the name Shenzhen Bay (as Sham Chun Bay) dates long before the establishment of Shenzhen as a city or Special Economic Zone. The name Deep Bay is perhaps still used on government records, but as a matter of fact Hong Kong no longer has authority over the entire bay--but it looks as if it has if we simply read the article, so this may be a little confusing.

I think the current arrangement is fine. Deep Bay is more commonly used among English speakers, local media, i.e. South China Morning Post, Hong Kong Free Press, all Hong Kong government departments, the World Wildlife Federation, etc. I would guess the name of the Hong Kong control point comes from the fact that it is co-located in Shenzhen with the Shenzhen Bay Port, so they just want to avoid potential confusion. Yes I agree that the name Deep Bay is still widely used, perhaps more than that of Shenzhen Bay (but I have to admit for the vast majority of occasions in Shenzhen at least,the Chinese name 深灣 is not in common usage anymore), especially on English media. My point though, is that Deep Bay, from what I read is jointly administered by both Shenzhen and Hong Kong since 1997. Some editors would like to differentiate Hong Kong as part of China but we have to be neutral, and this is Wikipedia my friend--everything here is for every person to see. That is, we shouldn't, say, edit an article any differently because that it is part of Hong Kong. In this occasion, the northern half of the bay (and a significant portion of area reclaimed from the bay) is the mainland, so we shouldn't name the page Deep Bay, Hong Kong. I suggest why not changing it to Deep Bay, China instead. Its nothing political...this article just seems rather biased and inclined to Hong Kong--the same thing with Mirs Bay, take a look at that article, it is written as if it has little to do with China.

A random note--several of those websites regarding Hong Kong on your user page--the HKPL digital library and Gwulo.com especially, are some of my favorite sites for Hong Kongese History
