School colors note
[edit]The official school colors are navy and yellow. Orange, meanwhile, serves as the school's distinct "spirit color." During Spirit Week, students are encouraged to wear orange.
The "spirit color" idea came about as an accident, when ASB students received a large order of camouflage sweatpants that were mistakenly printed in a bright orange pattern, in lieu of an intended blue/yellow pattern. Instead of discard the order, the sweatpants were sold/distributed as "school spirit pants" and the student group declared that orange was the "spirit color." This notion has stuck with the school for over 10 years as of 2015, with the orange camouflage pants continuing to be sold and worn among students. The upside is that Decatur students are very noticeable as such, even in the community outside school, during spirit week. - 199.27.168.41 (talk) 23:42, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
