Population Correction

[edit]

Prior to my editing of this article, the second sentence in the introductory paragraph read as follows: As of the 2007 census, the city had a total population of 15,478.

There was no census conducted in 2007 and the city of Decatur, while growing, is not that large in population. No source was provided to verify the population.

The latest estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, North Central Texas Council of Governments, and the Texas State Data Center each show a smaller population for Decatur, despite using different methods to determine their respective estimates.

1. The U.S. Census Bureau shows an estimated population of 6,432 for Decatur as of July 1, 2008.
2. The North Central Texas Council of Governments places Decatur's population at 5,950 as of January 1, 2010.
3. The Texas State Data Center shows an estimate population of 6,330 for Decatur as of January 1, 2009.

Since the U.S. Census Bureau figure is the most widely used, I have updated the page to show the 2000 Census population as well as the July 1, 2008 estimated population for the city.

I also removed another sentence that states: Decatur is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas, while Wise County is the fourth fastest growing county in Texas. While Decatur has grown by 23.7 percent between the 2000 census and 2008, it is not one of the fastest growing cities in the state. There are many examples throughout the DFW Metroplex and the state of cities that have doubled or even tripled in size during the same period. According to another U.S. Census Bureau estimate, Wise County was ranked 25th, not fourth, in terms of population growth percentage between 2000 and 2009.

The broadcast tower height claim

[edit]

is far short of any record. VFR charts list the tower as 2859 MSL which is 860 feet above the ground. Hutchinson, Kansas has a 2845 MSL tower that is 1,545 feet above the ground. The TX tower IS NOT exceptional.75.37.228.207 (talk) 02:08, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
